Sir Jack Brabham, the only F1 world champion to win the drivers & constructors championship in the same year with a car of his own design. He recently turned 80. Bob Rufi, 140mph on the lakes in 1940. John Zappia, first legal 5 sec pass in a Top Doorslammer, he's not a big budget racer either.
car-wise my hero is bob higgins. guy is mostly self-taught with cars, builds them and fixes them himself. in our mopar club, he's one of the FEW that actually does work on his own car - and knows what he's doing. he's also patient and teaches me shit about my car. between him and the HAMB i'm learning a lot.
I doubt anybody knows him becouse hes not big time, but my dad is my hero. At 60years old 8second 1/4s arent fast enough for him...
My hot rod hero,,,as a young kid was Gene Cromer,,,a local guy that lived down the street and had a 40 Willys drag car,,,w/t a big block Ford engine,,,,I still have a lotta respect for him to this day! HRP
My maternal grandfather: first off his landing craft during the D-Day landings. tomsilk's posting above sums it up today....
