Check the expansion of the world's population , we aren't loosing enough people to make a dent in overpopulation ! From my grandparents to my grandkids , seatbelts might be used infrequently by some , there's wayyyy too much nanny state already! If society practiced " Don't do that you might get hurt " as a unbreakable rule , there would be zero advancement in any discipline you can imagine !

So a good friends 21 year old daughter had a very minor, low speed accident and she was not belted in. She was standing outside talking to the other driver and a cop when she tipped over dead. Turned out she had torn her aorta when she hit the steering wheel. No doubt that a shoulder belt would have prevented her death. Just seems like a no brainer to me.

The "modern" seats in my 49 Dodge pickup had the factory add on head rests. When I installed them in the truck, I removed the headrests from the seats so I could place the seats farther back in the cab for a more comfortable ride. When I sit in the seat, I can lean my head back and set it against the back window. That glass is safety glass mounted in a rubber gasket. May not be as good as the headrest, but certainly better then nothing.

DSC01748.JPG DSC01749.JPG I got universal retractable shoulder harness belts from Seatbelts Plus. I was able to fish a steel backing plate with a nut welded to it into the B Pillar and attach that with small screws to hold in position for shoulder belt anchor bolts that bolts into that. Then custom brackets made fro 3/16" thick steel for the floor mounts.
The non retracto lap belts I had were just a mess to deal with. Always having to fiddle with where one end or the other was.
My wife rides in this truck, and as someone else mentioned, I wouldn't want her face re-arranged because of dash contact.
Been used to wearing belts for so long, it feels funny without 'em.

I have 4 point harnesses in my OT, street legal dune buggy. What a hassle. I should remove them and put a 3 point restraint in their place. I would use them more often. Most of the time I end up sitting on them.

Not wearing seatbelts as a solution to overpopulation. That's hilarious.:D Darwin's theory of evolution comes to mind....

Then I read the post immediately after yours.......:(

But out of date for most racing rules…but doesn’t mean much as any racing system is overkill in a passenger car. Good choice to use them..

I needed some custom retractable seat belts made for the back of my 53 Chevy. I dealt with a company out of Arizona great customer service price was fair and quality was on point. Wish I remembered the name of the place

Racer's Direct. Great prices, when I bought them, they had a ton of color choices and they are made in the USA.

  13. I am genuinely surprised to see how many members and hot rodders actually do use seatbelts. I’ve installed them in all my cars that weren’t equipped with them from the factory, even my T roadster. I’ve gotten some flak from some fellow car guys over the years, but with a wife and kids, I wouldn’t have it any other way… 4C8CBCD8-F8B2-4B28-A467-05756A21C3B5.jpeg

If you want to help with overpopulation, use these.
If we pass the hat around I bet we could raise more than enough to cover the cost.:D;)

    Nope.
And I've paid the price. And it was as simple as trying to avoid a coyote. The result is I've got three titanium screws in my right ankle, and a permanent hitch in my step.

On the other hand, had I been on the HD rather than the much more nimble Truimph Bonneville, I would ran right over ol' wilee coyote and continued on with my day, instead of trying to avoid him, and grabbing just a bit too much front brake and having the front wheel wash out. Down we went.
The HD, being much heavier and not quite so nimble, just would soaked up the bump and continued on.

    Edit:
I don't wear a helmet or armored jacket in the car either.
At any rate, seatbelts are a preference thing. I prefer 'em. If you don't, then you do you. I'll do me!

Well, if you are really in high school, then you are a baby. If you somehow make it into your 70s you may decide to try to stick around.

General Motors, namely Chevrolet parts department.

    Hello,

For this part that was missing when we purchased our 327 powered, 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery project hot rod, it was a part of the safety installation upgrade, as it had no seat belts. At least our other two cars had seat belts, but no shoulder harnesses that were part of the original factory purchase.

I went to the parts department of our local, Chevy dealer and bought a new set of tan colored seat belts. They were the first ones that clicked in place. The other brands available at Pep Boys and accessory shops were the slide in belt with a pull lever to allow adjustments and removal. It was not the most enduring installation and application, so we looked for the click-in belt apparatus and the Chevy dealer had new ones in stock.

They also had the installation bolts and washers. But, our local auto parts store had recommended upgraded stronger nuts and bolts with two wider washers on both sides of the hole through the floor. The angle of the seat belt placement was exactly the distance and spot measured from a Chevrolet El Camino seat back.

There were no shoulder belts that would work well at the time. The angle of the installation on the post behind the seat/door was not the right angle. So, the click belt clip and color matched the seat upholstery color and the installation was secure and comfortable.

Tan seatbelts sitting on a tan upholstery bucket seat looked as if it was a factory stock item. Not just an add on for safety. YRMV

Who makes them with Ford ends? I have ~'99 Lincoln leather buckets with the short receiver next to the seat. I know I could take it off but if it's just a matter of checking the right box I'd rather save some work.

  27. Another vote for Juliano's. I use the spring-loaded retractors in my '34 Coupe.

  28. I'm using a 3-point retractable system up front from Wesco, 2-point in the back seat. The 3-point is tied well into the b-pillar. I had to get longer bolts and make up some bushings to copy the shoulder bolt feature.

I know that the suspense must be killing many of you.

Yesterday I ordered belts from Juliano's.

    3) retractable
