A little bit of trivia: production of the 292 and the 272 Y-blocks continued in Brazil until 1975. They were used in the Brazilian produced F-100s, F-600s and the Ford Galaxie/Landau. The Galaxie and Landau models were actually based on the US produced 1966 Galaxie four door sedan and were built between 1967 and 1982. :)

Sorry to differ with ya Mr. Happy althou I do like the Y-blocks and I DO have one right now and HAVE owned many in the past, your comment that the Y-Block's bottom ends are "strong as hell" is not quite true.
Back in the "day" it was common knowlege that that you never wound up a y-block like you would with a small block Chevy.... Unless you liked picking up parts on the road...

Well, i'm pretty young, so "back in the day" for me was.......the 90's. :D
Most of what I've learned about the Y-block is from reading and listening...
So up until now, it's hearsay.
I can tell you, though, from experience, that a Y-block WILL definatly outlast the automatic that is behind it.
