Folks Of Interest Why am I an Alliance Member?

I have been an Alliance Member for 9 years now. Why do I continue to spend $50 to do this?

Yesterday, for the first time, I used my Alliance discount. I bought a set of tires from Coker. It saved me $98, but really only saved me $16. Coker offers a generous 10% discount on their tires ($98), but eats up most of that with freight charges. You can buy your tires for the same price (no discount) from Summit and get free shipping.

But I am not an Alliance Member just to save a few bucks.

Nor am I an Alliance Member to receive some fraud protection.

I am an Alliance Member because I wish to show this small amount of appreciation for the opportunity that is presented by this Forum. By Ryan and his gang of hoodlums.

I certainly feel some obligation due to my constant presence in the Classifieds. Perhaps my contribution of knowledge somewhat offsets that.

Things have changed dramatically since I joined the HAMB almost ten years ago. I still go on multiple times a day and still find it very, very valuable.

    thanks for the opportunity!

  2. I have similar thoughts....
I have only used the discount once, also recently.

I know it costs to provide the site and I am on here a LOT!

I'd also like to think of it as a way I can (at least partially) cover the amount of space I use posting photos. I post a lot of photos and as we all know with the recent Photobucket fiasco, it sucks when they disappear.

I am an alliance member because it's a valuable resource and I like to pay my share for what I use. Last week I sold some parts to a guy in England. He saw a post about my changing from those parts to some I liked better. And he wrote to ask about the old parts. Where else is this going to happen?

Good post, youve inspired me! Ive been a member for 10 years and get on everyday to look, drool, and soak up all the beautiful cars posted on here daily. I read alot of the tech postings and have learned alot from the members throughout the years. When i'm stumped while working on my cars i will usually get on and find an article or thread that pertains to my issues. Not once have I replied to any conversations, as I typically feel that my 2 cents isn't necessary to most any conversations i've read. Yesterday I finally paid the money to become an alliance member to show my appreciation to this site for all it has given to me. I cant go a day without checking it out, so I thank you and appreciate all the members who have informed and entertained me throughout the years.
Ive been wanting to sell off the Cadillacs and get into something different so maybe the Alliance will be helpful with that too.
    Thanks again to everyone!

I am a alliance member because this group has helpful ideas and entertainment. I use the classifieds to sell/buy cars and parts and have been paid back way beyond $50.00...Thanks...

I am an Alliance Member out of gratitude to the site and everyone on it—I could not have built my car without it. I am fortunate to be at a point in life where I can afford to do this; the annual membership is less than a month of cable, and I get far more enjoyment from the Hamb than from TV.

However, not everyone is so fortunate. There’s lots of guys struggling these days for whom the additional annual expense is not realistic. But they contribute in other ways—providing the posts and tips and inspiration that have helped me and also convinced me to join. So in a small way, my Alliance Membership is also theirs.

It all about the firewall tag boys! I have never had a rod without one and I can not tell you how many people walk up at a car show or cruise in, see the tag and mention they are a member or contributor on the HAMB. It is sort of a giant car club you know. I am happy to contribute a little to the cause to keep it going and growing.

  9. I have been a member of the Hamb for 14 years now and a Alliance Member since it's inception in 2006,12 years ago.

I have also used my Alliance Membership and received discounts numerous times but I would be a member even if we didn't get the perks.

I also believe in doing my small part when it comes to helping supporting this site that has been instrumental in giving me the knowledge and the support to try things I would have not done in the past.

I am well aware everyone doesn't have a spare 50 bucks, but for those that primarily use the classifieds to supplement their income really should step up and help keep the doors open and the lights on. HRP

I agree with Bobwop and HRP. I have been an alliance member since I joined and feel it is well worth it for the info. and folks I have met thru this site. Well worth the $50 to support this site.

  14. Felt it was the right thing to do, given the info and resources the HAMB provides.

Yes I too looked at this closely.
The 10% discount did not help on the cost after freight charges.
Ended up going through Summit with free shipping.

I am still willing to help the cause here. Small price for all the entertainment.

I get a lot out, but I put very little in. So I pay for some oil to keep the wheels turning. Seems fair to me.

  18. Ryan emailed me to tell me that I was the distance relative of a recently deceased Arabian prince who had willed his fortune to me. Ryan was entrusted with it's transfer, and needed me to send him $50 to cover wire transfer fees. I sent him the funds, and he sent me a firewall tag instead... :D

Seriously though, I've been an Alliance Number for 5 or 6 years now. I've benefitted from the discount a few times, but the real reason why I am an Alliance Member, is to give back a bit. I am on this website almost every day, and I spend way more time here than I should (usually during business hours). I have learned so much from here, and met so many great people. I want to keep the lights on, so I pays my monies. And I'm happy to.

I've been an Alliance member since the beginning. Little enough payback for a site that not only gives me a lot of information and ideas, but had provided countless hours of entertainment during good time, illnesses, retirement adjustment. Thanks, not only to Ryan, but to all the members that make it all work so smoothly.

I think it helps pay the bills. This site isn't free to operate.....or is it?

I'd figure less than 10cents a day for the number of times I use the best App on my phone.
Hands down best Encyclopedia, reference, tech, advice, pics, motivation, ideas,& good group of guys for my favorite hobby.
& probably swayed me more traditional than I would have had enough conviction to maintain on my own.
    Thanks Ryan & all contributors!

  22. Cheap entertainment. Sent NASCAR has four winners a race. I quit them. Pro football has gone south. This is the place to be. At least we are normal here.

  24. I've been here for only a couple of years, but I keep my Alliance status current. I've never used any of the discounts available; never even think to use those. But I do believe in paying my own way. What we all get from this site is well worth the price of admission.

Thanks everyone for the kick in the butt. I just joined. don't know if I'll ever use the discount but 50 bucks is worth it to help keep the lights on.

  26. Been a member almost since I found this plate. And get way more out of it than any magazine subscription I've ever had. Thanks All, and you too Ryan. :)

  27. What a coincidence! I just got my reminder that my Alliance membership was due.... re-upped!

  28. This place is a lot of entertainment and information for fifty bucks. I've used the discount a couple of times but that's not why I joined. I like the idea of being a participant and paying my way.

During my current times, I don't have a spare 50 to spend on my projects, or anything else, but I love coming here and getting the information I am looking for, as well as offer some pittance of advice along the way.

I commend you gents/gals, for helping Ryan keep this site alive and well...and when I am able, I will do my part as well..at 56 years old, I get my "piece of paper" in May of 2018, that says I'm qualified to work again in a new field...yes I'll drop the dime and get my tag then:)

Just to be one of the cool guys! Actually, the Alliance vendor discount more than pays for it.
