Ford went with the unabody and thats what rusted out first. In the 60's we called the cars three year throw away cars.

There is a 1958 Caddy two door sitting under car port less than two miles from my house it is probably for sale! Looks like he took it a part for paint.

I have to admit that I like it, too! Didn't Ford outsell Chevrolet in '57? I've heard that somewhere.

I know where all the 58 Impalas went...well not all but a lot. There is a collector here in MA, and I work for him restoring his cars. He has about 150 58 Chevy cars behind his shop, mostly Impalas, about 17 Convertibles, 50+ 2 door HT, and the rest are either 2 or 4 door biscaynes, be air's, Del Ray's, and he has a couple long roofs, one is a Nomad. Inside the shop and almost complete, is two convertible's one performance red on red with a white top, and one turgoise conv. and a black HT. All three have almost every option available on an Impala, 348 tri-power, power everything, rear seat speakers and p-side speaker knob, autronic eyes, etc... These are 100 point cars. The Impala's had some great available options, I was amazed at what was available. One options was air ride, smokeless ash tray (vacuumed it out to a canister in the engine bay along with the ashes.
He also has a ton of 59-61 Impalas as well.

Ford did outsell Chevrolet in 1957, mainly due to the fact that the '57 Chevy was a third year facelift while the Ford was all new.

Ford was the company selling safety the previous year, in 1956, with dished steering wheels, break-away rear view mirrors, crashproof door locks standard; padded dash and sunvisors cost $16 extra, and factory-installed seatbelts cost $9. But the public wasn't interested, and Ford failed to catch Chevrolet that year
