loosely based on Showdown? Hardly - we STOLE that idea from Scary Larry!!!!
    Ha.
Seriously - Jalopy Showdown was by far the most fun I have EVER had at a show.
When we left that show we knew that we had to do something like that in the Midwest.
I always tell people - if you want to have a GREAT time.....
    go to Jalopy Showdown.
We try to bring that same fun level to Torque Fest.....
not sure how many people have been able to go to both - but we certainly try to have as much fun at our show.
Love Scary Larry and he has helped us in so many ways.

People looking for a fun event should try Greaserama. This year they have a new location and with the Good Guys no longer being in town, I think the car count and quality will be going up for their show.
Other shows in the Midwest that are HAMB related can be found at

  2. Thanks Gary!

Look forward to seeing you in September!

Like many have said, if you have an idea run with it, start asking questions and stay with it! Rad things happen!

I dunno... maybe it just that I look at things differently, but I just started reading this thread, got 1/2 through it, fast-scrolled through the rest, stopping to read or skim a couple of posts from members, and here's what I came up with:

Multi-city Reliability Run to Coker Tire in Chattanooga or Dennis Carpenter in Charlotte, or some place like that.
Draw a 4-hour radius around the destination city, and pick five cities to leave from.
Find a shop or other automotive-related business in one of those five cities, contact them and say "Hey, we'd like to use your parking lot as a jumping-off point for a day trip. Is that cool?"
They'll say "Of course it is!"
Then we'll say "Great! Hey... um... do you think we could scam some hot coffee and donuts from you in the morning while we're waiting for everyone to show up?" and they'll say "We'd be happy to provide donuts and coffee! And we might even throw in something else too, like discount coupons or cheap hats or something."

We all meet in each of the respective parking lots at 7 am, we get to our destination around lunch, tour the place for a few hours, then jump back in our cars and head home, stopping along the way to invade some poor Hooters or something.

Interstates would make it easy, and boring, so we'd run parallel roads to the interstate. Map Quest makes it simple, but AAA "Trip-Ticks" make it really, really reliable.

And that, right there, is how easy it is.

Maybe I'll put it together for sometime this winter, after The Gear Jam Drags, if there's interest. Maybe January or February, before the swap meet picks up again.

I'm allllll about drivin' 'em. Hell, its no coincidence my promotion company is called "Driven Events."
