You done good. You acted in accordance with your own values, your own moral comp***. In the meantime this lady is still meandering through life wondering why only bad things happen to her...maybe someday she'll look back on your kind generosity and see the error in her ways...or not. Whatever the case, you will be all the better for your actions!

I do this kind of thing all the time. If I have time to stop I will. There are lots of people who only care about what they can get out of people like said before.

you did the right thing. good job. I always hope someone will do the same for someone in my family or myself eventually. But I have been stranded on the side of the highway many times and there just aren't many people like us out there anymore.

    No question you did.

About a month ago I helped an old (say 75 ish) couple at pick a part. We had a great conversation, traded tools and I found them a trolley cart to take theìr tires and rims out with. We were pulling stuff from the same car. I really enjoyed that.

Yeah, I've had that kind of stuff happen to me too. A couple years ago I was in my 39 pontiac and p***ed a guy in a chevelle sitting along the road. It was a divided highway so it was a h***le to get back to him, but I did. He didn't know what was wrong, but I figured he was just out of gas. So I go up the road, get him some gas in a can I happened to have in my trunk, he put it in, started the car and just drove off! No thank you, no offer to pay for the gas, NOTHIN!
Another time, I saw a woman's car get hit in an intersection and the guy just drove off. I chased him down as he weaved through traffic. I finally pulled up close behind him at a light and when I got out of my car, he backed up and hit my car several times till he moved it enough to get around the car in front of him, then almost hit me (guy had mental problems). I got his license # for the the woman, told her what happened and showed her the damage to my car, she never even thanked me.

BUT, they're not all like that.

man karma is going to pay you back in a good way when you least expect it!

  11. You did right. Keep on doing it and don't expect anything, it should just make you feel good that you helped. ;)

A few weeks back, a day or so after a big rain, I noticed a bunch of water come running down my street. I thought it was another city water pipe break as they happen from time to time. After about an hour or 2, I was starting to wonder where the heck it was coming from. Then I was up the street and noticed it seemed to be coming from one of my neighbors houses who I didn't know. Looked to me like maybe a pipe inside their house had broken and was flooding - actually happened to my next door neighbor, I found that one and they ended up having to gut and redo the entire interior of the house from all the damage, wood ceilings and all. Water seemed to be coming out of an odd pipe at the bottom corner of their house. Anyway, I looked inside and couldn't see any obvious damage, but couldn't quite figure out why water would be coming out of that pipe. I figured, maybe good to turn off the water for them and leave a note just to be safe. So, I found the shut off and that is what I did. About 2 hours later I get a call and an older lady is yelling at me asking why I turned her water off. I tried to explain it to her, but she didn't quite seem to understand. I told her, no problem, I would be there in 2 min. to turn it back on. Then she said 'and I'm not paying you anything for it'. That is when I said, I don't want anything for it, I did it because you were my neighbor and I thought your house was flooding, sorry, I'll be right there to turn it back on. All of a sudden she then said she was sorry and now figured out what I was trying to do and was very appreciative. When I got there both she and her husband were both very thankful and we chatted for a while. They are very nice people actually. Turns out, the guy who helps them with yard work had gotten up on the roof and unclogged the drains. I am not sure how much water was on their roof, but it was a hell of a lot. The pipe was the downspout that was concealed inside the wall (not sure that is a great idea). I told them they might want to be careful with that as water is very heavy and their roof might not be able to hold much more than what must have been up there.

Not quite the same as they turned out to be very nice and thankful people. But, lesson is sometimes good deeds don't necessarily lead to positive results, at least not obviously or right away, but then most times they do.

You got good "carma" from that. She probably got a flat with that spare on her way to her destination. She has bad "carma".

You did the right thing. Politeness, and just being a good person, is a thing far too uncommon these days.

no sweat dude your role in this was to make sure her bad karma kicked in. by that i mean by inflating her tire you were making sure with the bulging sidewall that she would be in the middle of nowhere exactly where she belonged when it blew out for good, dead cell phone and all so nobody would help her because of her indignant attatude! karma gets another victim!

You did good, but as the saying goes: no good deed goes unpunished.

Sign of the times: Once upon a time, if we saw someone broken down by the side of the road, we would most likely stop to see if we could help. Today, the thought in the back of your mind is that it might be a setup where the Good Samaritan gets mugged or his ride jacked. It's a lot tougher to do the right thing when there are so many a**holes ready to take advantage.

Like they say "No good deed goes unpunished!" but you did the right thing even though she didn't.

Doing a good deed is like wetting yourself in a dark suit...you get a warm feeling but nobody notices.

Well, that is kind of harsh, but hard to argue. Regardless, still good to try to help people as much as we can, 50's or not

Yes, the mines make the money up here...at least they used too...INCO forced a strike on their 3500 employees, back in June/09, and XSTRATA laid off 686 guys back in February/09 (me one of them)

Like I said...nice guys finish last.

P.S. not copper mines up here...they are all Nickel mines.

  27. Damn straight!!! And quite a few of those lesbians are trapped in a man's body!!

    I don't think chocolate helps, but I'm sure it doesn't hurt....:D

    Cosmo

P.S. Don't go of thinking that you shouldn't help people, you should. However, you should NOT help her again. That is HER bad karma, coming back around.

P.P.S. Remember, if your daughter is a lesbian, she'll not come home pregnant.

I guess that means if some one helped you out, you wouldn't appreciate it? You'd think the guy was a ****er for pullin your *** out of the fire right? Sounds like maybe you're part of the problem. I hope you didn't join the HAMB expecting to get any help with anything, but if you did, you'll probably get it, there's lots of "nice guys" here.

I guess it was "Copper Cliff" that made me think that. It was the sulfer content that I was smelling too. I just read up on Subury on Wikipedia and saw my mistake. Its pretty tough in a mill town, especially when you have a multi-national company standing on your throat and union busting is a sport for them. I have a friend that grew up in a northern Minnesota milltown and it was a pretty rough dog eat dog place for him growing up. Hang in there!
