Remove rear spring ***m. from my 47 tudor and strap bags to axel and frame for lowering.Leaving torque tube in place with stock sway bar. What about front also I have a new drop axel from speedway.
That E store sells kits any way you want, the bag base cups strap to the axle with U-bolts.Figured I could fab a panhard from dom and hiems to frame, possible from old spring mount or fab a mount.Wouldn't the torque tube still stabilize things.I removed the spring ***m only and cycled my axle, from hanging on shocks to bump stop using a string from frame past axle and had no change. This is my first (hot rod)Thanks for the comments. Marty
I believe your '47 already has (or should have had) an Panhard bar on both ends. Whether or not is is of sufficent strength or not with out the stock spring/shackles, I am not sure. Although the stock spring and shackles do permit some side to side motion (that's WHY the Panhard bar is there) they nonetheless also resist some of that motion in the process. The torque tube has no effect on side to side motion, only controls axial rotation of the axle housing, but that is sufficient. Seems to me if you have room for the bags and cups in the space available it will work. However, I had a '47 a few years ago and don't recall there is a lot of space to work with for bags with the original rear crossmember in place. Ray
Ray I planned to build a new heavy Panhard. The kits I saw, the top of bags will bolt into bump stop hole and the only thing close is shocks in stock position. This really seems to simple and I still can't see whats wrong.
The stock Panhard bar should be strong enough. It imposes a geometry that is different to that of the spring shackle instant centre, so that the two systems are fighting one another to some extent. That gives the set-up a small degree of additional roll stiffness. The Panhard is in fact working less hard without the shackles.
