Ford figured out that it wasn't worth competing against them selves, so they dropped the Merc in 1970. GM is still working on it. EH
that is slick.. but (and not tryin to start an argument here) Merc trucks didn't appear till 46.. judging by the grafted in dash-board, steering wheel, and tail-gate, one of the donors for this build was a 46 or 47 merc truck.. who's is bigger by the way
C, eh. N, eh. D, eh. I say we trade ya Michael Jackson for Gordon Lightfoot, and Britney Spears for Neil Young. I wish I had a Mercury pickup.
Gots yerself some 100% Canadian Prime Beef did ya I remember racing with the Chrismans at Bako a few years ago, we were all drinkin lots of beers. I guess I was outdrinkin a few of the boys and one of em says to my wife "yer husband is a machine, look at him pound beers" she replied "naw, hes just Canadian!" I overheard him say it and said to him, "at home I drink water all day too!" hehehe -Shiny
Crikey, what a bunch of BS. Very simple my brothers and ooops, my sisters, mercury dealers in canada wanted a pick up and did not want to sell a Ford on their lot, since that was bottom feeder of a pick-uip and not high enough cl*** for mercury customers. so they, ford in canada, re-badged a ford truck, and since it was made in canada, eh (pronounce ay, like in hay), V-8's flatties ruled. same applies to a GMC 1600 pick ups, which in the US was a Chev 3100. Pontiac dealers did not want to sell a chev p/u. Canada just dropped the Mercury dealerships/name during the re-cession, but mercury name still exists in the US. Now back to that 32 Mercury RPU, did not exits at that time, its a phantom. Do not touch your dial...regular programming (notice the spelling) will return shortly...
BTW, there are lots of those 53 -56 effies running around in the US that are not really mercury trucks. seems some just want be unique and stand out from the crowd. they found those had to find trim pieces and paid a whole lot of money for bieng unique. the hardest part to find is good ole clean tailgates, without the grain chute coming through the name.. lol.
You can't find a Canadian?? In central Florida?? They're the ones speaking French (and you can keep them) .
and BACON, love that bacon. I remember in the summer of 1977 our family vacationed there. Saw many cool Mercury Econoline vans and pickups. Awesome!
Tell me why Canada got the only hardtop 1953-54 Desotos. Not like you guys needed the extra ventilation...
There are also the C-47 WWII aircraft is called a Dakota in Canada. The P-3 is called the Orion, here and there. Gotta give credit to the Canucks for the amazing Avro Arrow, a fighter aircraft that was literally 25 years ahead of it's time, built in the late 1950s...it's a shame that that aircraft did not go into full production! Mach 2.5 capability, fly-by-wire, all kinds of cool ****! Had that aircraft survived all of the political ******** of the day, Canadian aircraft production and technology would've been far ahead of what we have today in the US. Yes, really! http://www.ask.com/bar?q=avro+arrow...kf57xk7nlpCw25nfWYTFu+Ge/4=&tsp=1255666277833
Don't forget Canadian Meteor grilles (Bill Hines' Lil Bat) and 55-8 Pontiac sedan deliveries. And Shiny is right about the beer.
Now that some funny but true **** Now the real reason we Have Mercury and not Ford is we can write more than four letters in a word at a time
Ahhh my enlightened one! You can't have a discussion like this without mentioning the Avro Arrow. It's just too bad they all hit the s**** heap! Wanna see something pretty rare .....how about a 47 Merc panel. Here's a pic of the one the 64 Krusty used to own and belonged to a dearly departed fellow Canadian.
Cool pic Dale, I miss that 47 Merc, but more importantly, I really miss the little "********r" who owned it when that pic was taken.
how do ya cir***size someone from quebec? kick his sister in the jaw damn frenchies oh and frontenacs are awesome
