Funny thing is I have 3 hot rods, one 327 chevy, one Hemi and one flathead. They are like kids, how could you ever pick one as your favorite? chuck
My Dad generally drove GM ( Chevrolet ) vehicles when I was young. He later had Oldsmobiles and Cadillacs as he grew older and better off financially. My first car was a Chevrolet. I really like old Fords but I have never owned a licensed, insured Ford car with a Ford engine. Mine all have had Chevrolet engines. The SBC just fits so much better in a 32 Ford or a 40 Ford. My daily is a 2009 Silverado. The wife has a new style DTS Cadillac ... and my old beater car is a 1995 Cadillac Sedan Deville ( with only 60 thousand miles ). Both my 32 Fords have SBC ... and my project truck ( 1949 Mercury M-47 pickup ) will have a SBC also. So ... I guess I was raised to be a General Motors guy ... My brother is the same way ... with ALL GM vehicles that he currently owns ( 2008 Tahoe, Cadillac XLR, Cameo, El Camino and a GTO )
Dad loves old Fords...I love old Fords...my boys love old Fords. We love 'em all but we Ford at heart.
Started out with a 66 Ford Falcon...then wrecked it and needed another car...found a 69 Charger and have been a mopar man ever since.
First car was a 68 camaro with a worn out 327 and m21 muncie. Got me a set of 4:11s and a spool and never looked back. I still have the car but now it has a worn out 454 lol. I was so "die hard" chevy i got a bow tie tattoo on my arm when i was 15 from a friend of a friends cousin. As long as its American, or at least pretends to be.
My dad always drove Ford, so that's what I always borrowed. My first new car was a Vega, first and last Chevy I ever owned. My dad was a smart man.
I grew up working on Austin Healey's, so you'd think I'd have a clean slate as far as the Big three goes. My old man always had a Ford truck, and I do like most Ford trucks. But I started working on the '53 Dodge truck that was abandoned on our property. And then I bought my grandfathers '66 Fury to do the front clip on the Dodge truck so I could drop a 440 in it. I still haven't finished that damn truck, but I've been a Mopar guy since I started working on it when I was 15 or so. And I've had another half dozen mopars fall in my lap since then, so, other than the British stuff its what I know. And, there's always the Hemi. I mean, what's cooler than a freaking Hemi!?
My father thankfully brainwashed me when i was little kid to love all things Mopar. but ford and gm have made a few good ones over the years
I have 3 steel 1940 willys , a 56 and 57 vette, a 32 gennie steel 3 window and a original 3 seater 65 suburban , just to spend money on and keep my self out of the bars !!!!!
Started with a 65 mustang when I could afford it. Changed to Mopar because I just love the old Hemi's. Wouldn't want anything else now...
first car I drove was dads 1939 Pontiac straight 8 business coupe, when I was 11. I love em, [but they are rare]. then he got a 47, Dodge deluxe coupe, I inherited it later for my Hischool car, [it wasnt,l cool then,but now I luv em]. the first car I owned was a 30 model A. still [luv em.] Then a 41 Ford one owner coupe., and so on, be better to say what I don,t like, but I,m tired now so I,m going.
I split it out depending on need. I have always preferred GM trucks(The K5s probably being my all time favorite OT vehicle - I currently have four) for work and daily duty. When it comes to vans it has to be an Econoline. Ford builds the toughest vans, hands down. But then you get into the customs and the hotrods - and it's anybody's game. Everyone one of the American manufactures made something completely badass at one time or another. I do find that I gravitate towards Buicks.
Dad wasn't biased between Ford & Chevy. I guess I'm not either since I'm only 32 and have owned more than 40 cars of different makes, but I sway towards Ford stuff. We never had any Mopars, so I never cared for them, but there's a few that I do like. I guess I'm just a "car guy".
If it's old, American, and looks neat/different I like it........for example my early Dart, "F'ugly".
Ford engines, bodies what ever I like. Growing up my father owned and raced Fords an as I got older I raced ford. Spent my life working on the Ford engines so I just stuck with them. Plus I have all the factory Ford racing spec sheets from the 60's and 70's.
I grew up in a GM family. My first several cars were GM, with one Honda. My '57 F100 was practically given to me. It ran so well that I sold the 3 year old Honda piece of crap to get out from the payment and have never looked back. The winter of 2000/2001 it was my only vehicle and got me to everywhere I needed to go. It was a band vehicle for a couple of years and got all of our gear to the shows. At one point it was the most dependable vehicle I had ever owned. Come to think of it, it's still the most dependable vehicle I've ever owned. With the exception of vapor lock the first trip out in it and running out of gas one night out with friends, it's never left me high and dry.
I blame dad, he always had Ford's or Merc's when I was growing up. Mom always had Chrysler's in the 80's and 90's, and of course they broke down all the time. I grew up liking the bow tie, but that may have been to aggravate dad but in the end Ford has won the battle.
Well to tell the truth, in the beginning 'I was an OLDSMOBILE man.' A Chevy was a 216 babbit pounder, Olds was Super 88,s.
I grew up a chevy muscle car guy. My dad used to always say fords suck and are unreliable because he had issues with a couple of his. We both now have more fords than chevys and couldn't be happier.
First was the run thru the gears my dad made in his 406 galaxie, second was the "test drive" he took me with in a GT500KR mustang, third was one of my high school buddies 67 390 4speed mustang.. been bleeding ford blue ever since.
Well, in the 60's, as a lot of kids, I fell in love with hot rods/muscle cars/drag cars. From reading a ton of magazines, I thought that Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins was one helluva talent. So, I became a Chevy fan, later to branch out to pretty much anything GM, especially Pontiacs, as Chevy's have become a bit boring.
