I became a ford guy because every friend of mine had a chevy, so ive allways gone agaisnt the grain, guess thats why im also a raiders fan, cus everyone i know is a niners fan!
My Dad bought his first new car in '50, a Ford 2 door sedan w/flat 6. He'd ordered a '49 V8, but this was what he was offered. I learned to drive in his '56 272 Customline 4dr and Fords were just natural. My first car was a cast off '54 Dodge 241/ powerflite. Friends in the service bought a new '68 383/4spd Roadrunner, and a new '68 350/3spd Camaro, but that Camaro made me an sbc guy through the '70's - '56 BelAir, '67 Camaro, '65 PU, '72 PU, '68 Chevelle, oh, and a '67 430 Buick Wildcat. In '79, a '70 340 Duster with a stuck 4 piston caliper for $200.00 rekindled my latent MOPAR tendencies, and it was MOPAR A and B bodies through to '80's, '90's and on. Last year, a high school friend stopped by in his Brookville '32 roadster, and it opened my eyes. I joined the HAMB to research these cars and educate myself, and damed if I won't have a traditional rod. I guess I'm a Ford guy again.
I never became a Ford, Chev, Mopar (insert any car co. name here) I consider myself a CAR guy. I don't care what car company made it, if I like it I like it. I've had Fords, Mopars, AMC's, VW's, and GM's.
I have absolutely no brand loyalty. I own a Ford, a Chevy, a Plymouth, and the wife drives a Volkswagon.
One grandpa always had Mopars, the other had many Fords, my dad had mostly Chevys, but a couple Oldsmobiles and a Cadillac thrown in. I've never understood how people can fight with each other over brand loyalty. As a snowmobiler and motorcyclist, I see some serious arguments over which brand is best. I think they've all had their highs and lows. It's Coke vs. Pepsi. If you're thirsty you'll take whatever is available.
4th generation chevy man. Nobody in my family has really owned anything else. I married into it too, our houses look like GM proving grounds during the holidays. I can't really answer why because it's like being born caucasian or 6'3"...it just is!
I am a GM guy I guess but really like them all. just happen to own all chevys at the moment. My dad was a performance nut and mechanic his whole life .It is all his fault and I will cherish every moment I got to sit in his cars and hang on and grin. He drag raced , circle track and whatever he could get into . He had a 62 impala ss Drag car Then a 63 nova straight axle 302 chevy all worked over with hilborn injectors that really got me into chevy cars as a kid.. He had 2 identicle looking 35 ford coupes one all stock one had a big block 4 speed he street raced , would lure them with the stock one and say I need to change tires and bring the other one out.. he drove a 70 428 mach dailey . And raced a 69 GTX after the chevys.
I'm really not an anything person, or perhaps it is better said that I am not a purest. I like Small Block Chebbys, and Ford FEs and big Chryslers etc. It all depends on the build for my own personal preference.
Being an Italian, I Don't like french people. So chevy is out... I don't care for the Mopar's styling cues... My grandfather started with a Model A Ford, My Dad started with a 1969 Mach-1 and I think I'll carry on the torch. I guess thats why I own a ford.
Because everyone in my family had a Plymouth. And that first (from memory) ride in my older brothers E-Body 'Cuda when I was 5 or 6. I've never forgotten that.....
It was fate I was a Chevy man. When I was a kid growing up in the fifties my mom drove a 58' Belair, my dad a 57' 210 wagon and the real nail in the coffin----my older brother had a 57' BelAir with a 270hp 283. So its no wonder I've had a string of Chevys until recently. (Although I still have and have had a few Trifive Chevys the last several years.) Things are changing however, as I would now like to build a Ford, either a Model A or a 32-34 if I could find a steel body I could afford.
Ya know when someone says I'm a whatever man I usually think engine. Bodywise I'm not a purest either. There are several bodies built by several manufacturers that I like real well some are Fords, some are MOPARS etc. Again it depends on what I'm after building.
Used to be in the Bow-Tie brigade, Because of my 2 57's. Then the Model A came along. Now, I don't care who made what part of anything. If the shape is cool and I like it, that'll do.
pretty much as long as it was made in America, I like it. my personal favorites are olds and pontiacs...because I like big torquey motors that have a funky beat you can bug out to....
"switch on the lights, turn on the high beams better find a preacher on the radio.." Fred Eaglesmith By God, anyone that likes Fred Eaglesmith is A1 in my book.
I started out as a Mopar guy, guess cause Dad and Grandpa was. Got tired of not being able to sell any of my cars for decent money, seems my buddies could get good money for their Mustangs and Camaros but I'd have to give away my Barracudas (this was early 70's, funny how Mopar muscle seems to bring the $$$ now!). Switched to Ford, got to know them the best so pretty much that's what I stick with, but not a die hard, lots of various makes I wouldn't mind owning. Might even relive my youth and try to find a nice 68 Formala S Barracuda one of these days.
Grew up with Mopars, Dad drove Mopars, 50's, 60's, 70's, Grandfather drove Mopars, 30's, 40's, 50's, I drive or drove Mopars, 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's. Have had a few Fords and AMC's. Two gm's, my first and last. They all made good cars, but I am Mopar to the core,
My Father was a salesman at a ford dealership when I was a kid , not sure if that affected me or not. My model A has an oldsmobile rocket in it My Jailbar had a 327 in it the F100 has 400 ford but is soon to get Lincoln Y in it. Wifes ranch wagon is Y block powered . Our daily "family car " is a '75 Falcon . Previous rides have included oldsmobiles, impalas, a mercury, a handful of fords, a cadillac , 2 chevy pickups ....
Ford guy. because general motors would not give me a job. my father worked at guide lamp as an engineer for 35 years. I have a college education and could not get on there. Fuck Government Motors.
So I was 9 years old and my Dad says, "Sit in my coupe and turn the key for just a second when I tell you." As he is priming his blown 427 Chevy after havng it sit for 5 years, I turn it over on command and Vroom CACKLE, WAAAAAAA, WAAAAAA, WAAAA, an instant roar consumes my ears and the old man yells something like "can't beat a Chevy" inbetween each pulsation of the blower. That sound, smell, and holly shit rides in that car..... I can't shake it. I'm a Chevy/GM powered, car guy, but I appreciate all the rear wheel drive American made cars .
I used to be a Chevy guy... For me, Ford, this has been coming on for about 3 or 4 years.... First I grew to like Ford styling.... Then I discovered the Ford small block, almost certainly a superior engine to the SBC, sans the aftermarket support, and even this "support gap" has all but disappeared. Then Ford became the only "real" American automaker left... this cemented it....
