that reminds me of a story!

i went to this junkyard to find a set of ihc wheels and found some, so i went about to taking of the wheels, went to the fisrt one, couldnt budge the fu...er, so i went to the front, came right loose, got it off, went to the other front one, couldnt get that one to budge either, wtf, i bent the damn 4-way, so i went to the other rear one, came loose, so i went back to try some more, and thought about it, tried the opposite way, came loose like butter, so went to the opposite rear, that one came right loose too, some one must have switched the front hubs side to side!

It was a conspiracy, we all knew about 'em but wanted to see if you could figer it out, guess so.
That breaker bar could come in handy for pokin' back what poped (or pooped) out too.
Honest, sounds like something that you would find on a fuckin British car.
    Doc.

A guy I knew had a Vega wagon drag car with an 8 3/4 Chrysler rear in it, and one night someone snuck up on it and stole the mags off it. He must have either been a manly man, or had a good adrenaline rush going, because he managed to snap off all five LH studs!

  7. Hey that wasn't idiotic, it was based on sound :)D) engineering theory (the key word being theory here). it was so that the lug nutz on the pass side wouldn't loosen from the wheels spinning. DOH

Actually MOPAR used the lefty lugz up into the '60s. I wasn't aware the GM ever did though.

I just had to check that out, not a good idea on my part, but I do have to say that I don't think that particular prolaps was caused by lifting weights. Nnnnnnnnasty.:p

  8. It's been a while, but I don't remember left hand lug threads on either of my friends Oldsmobiles.
    One a 50 sedan, the other a 51 coupe.

Course, someone could have replaced the studs, but probably not.

I do understand the reasoning behind left hand spindle nuts, but left hand lugnuts make me wonder.
There's nothing to be gained there from what I can see.

Ford never had a problem with right hand thread lugs on the left side.

Maybe that's why I like Fords so well.
Doing something as simple as removing a wheel/tire combo didn't turn into a three ring circus featuring bent 4-way's which were boomeranged out into the orchard behind the house nor wondering why a sniped breaker bar sheared off the lug studs.
Not that I ever did that....

my 57 olds has the same thing, took me a damn hour to figure that out! I felt like a damn idiot after realizing I had been working on the car for an hour and a half and I had only taken off one wheel.

Same reason no one told me the ring gear bolts on my 8 3/4 rear end were lefties. More fun to watch me get pissed and throw things, then buy new spool and bolts anyway to install new gears. And the bad part is I KNEW THE DODGE LUGS NUTS WERE LEFTIES.
