I guess I wasn't paying attention that day in class, but when I was reading an article in Woodie Times about this guy building the Town and Country roadster that Chrysler advertised but never built...They had this picture of a (Stock??) Wayfarer that really caught my eye... The T&C Radster was pretty cool too...
I can't get over that roof line. I asked in the other post but if you didn't see it, did chrystler make that bodystyle with the top just like in the pic?
Er.. I guess I replied to this in the wrong post, but I'm thinking the photo is of a stock Wayfarer unless someone here says different. I think its a great looking car. Now if you could just shorten the top a little...
the Wayfarer in the pix was post war I believe in 48 or 49 I recently saw one at a car show, I was surprized that its a true roadster the window frames have little legs at the bottom thatfit into the top of the door ledge. The owner told me that very few were made. You must remove the window as a whole and store it in a compartment in the rear area of the car
I saw If I remember correctly a Dodge version of that car IT was a true roadster, the side windows were installed in a groove at the top of the doors I can t recall the exact method. I was surprised that a post war car would have no roll up windowsthe side windows were stored in therearof the car simililar that T tops are stored in vettes
A little more info on the Wayfarer series.... The Wayfarer Series was created in 1949 to fit into the lower end of the Dodge product line. There were three body styles, all built on a 115 inch wheelbase chassis. The Wayfarers were part of the 2nd Series 1949 models introduced in February, 1949. Prior to this, the 1949 models were basically the same cars Dodge had made from 1946 through 1948. The Wayfarer model line included a 2-door sedan (with a back seat), a 2 passenger coupe (with no back seat, hence, really a coupe), and a very neat little roadster with side-curtain windows which were replaced with roll-up windows later in the year.
To sum up Bigums, That's the 49-52 body style (though I'm not sure they made the roadsters in 51 & 52). It's basically the 3 passenger or business coupe with a foldable top. Plymouth made one as well, same design based on the business coupe. Both Dodge and Plymouth examples are very rare. Chris
I have a '49 wayfarer sedan which I just finished. The lines on the cars are great, but the front end has too much crap on it! If you want to check out the car check out: http://groups.msn.com/SmithsWayfarer
Wayfarers are definitely the coolest. What weird anamoly it was in 1950, a car with side curtains fer cryin' out loud. They're stunning, I wish I had one.
I think a chopped Carson topped 2dr would look cool also. Some day I may get to my 49 Chrysler Royal Sport Coupe. Ive also been unable to come up with a less cluttered front end treatment.
Just clean up whatcha got... Extra top grill bar is shortened in the middle and lengthened where the directionals used to be and in front of the wheel well. Clean off the bumper, lower it and make some wheel skirts for the back. French the rings, then paint is shit brown! Visor came on the picture from Carnuts.com, so
I was thinking the same thing when i was looking thru my Woodie Times... Speaking of Woodies, it sure seems like the prices have really climbed in the past year or so... its amazing how many folks think their woodies are worth 100k....
This may not be the right place for this, but what the heck. Seems like the ChryCo enthusiasts are on this thread. The parts car shown below is absolutely free. Just come and get it. No engine, trans, driveshaft or radiator. Bumpers look like they will clean up with no problem. Sheet metal is pretty fair. A couple of sheet metal tears in the hood, but other than surface rust, no problem. Dash looks good, instruments are all there in good shape and the steering wheel is not too bad. In a couple of weeks it goes to the junkyard. Hate to see it, but nothing else I can do. A few other photos are available as well. Car is located in Visalia, California. 80 miles north of Bakersfield and 40 miles south of Fresno.
Dang C9, I'll accually be in your area Wednesday-Sunday. I'm just not sure where I would put it.
C9 oh jeez man I live in Tulare like what 10 miles from you? If I had the space/money I'd take it... What do you do around here? Always lookin for something new to do. Oh how old are you? We may know some of the same folks... I went to high school there. Later Striga P.S. couldn't you put that in the times-delta?? My father in law sold a crappy panel wagon (no offense to anyone, it was in crappy shape) for a pretty penny.
Since I now know how to post photos, here's the front end treatment on my sedan: And C9, I have an extra '50 plymouth grille I'd throw in to whoever takes that car, if it's still there.

Wayfarers are the coolest. I have three two door sedans if anybody wants one. Back in high school I knew a guy who had a chopped '50 with a 318 in it. I had a four door '50 Meadowbrook, so his car was WAY cooler. Here I am 15 years later and I still can't get over that car. Someday I'll get one of mine on the road.
