Not quite a B'ville belly tanker but I'd drive it in a skinney minute. It's up for auction Friday. I'm sure it will be out of my league but I think it's cool as shit. Here's the auction link for you fat cats. Auction site
Kinda neat it is. Interesting answer on the bibs for a low radiator. I'll take the other pair of fenders....
Tommy, That's a pissa car. I was going to build one similar, but I didn't have the space for another project. My plan was to use a Model A four banger.
Clark. No but you can bid online. My retired buddy may go. I've only been to a few auctions but everything I wanted was over bid. You won't find another one of these! How about the blue vent tubes to get the trapped air out of the highest point in the radiator hoses. Must have been a steamfitter! I love all the details. The fenders, the wide five wheels even the port holes. I'd be worried that there may not be enough holes for the cooling system to work properly but what a "cool" piece!
If you're not going I may go. Iknow we like the same stuff and I wouldn't want to get in your way. I would be interested in the parts. The belly tanker is cool but I don't think a lot of people would bid on it. Clark
It looks like the hot rod Flash Gordon would have driven in a late night, high stakes race against Ming the Merciless. (Ming would of course appear invincible in a near stock but cosmetically evil Dusenberg, only to have Flash beat him by a hair in the end.)
Could be. I have wierd taste. If you go let us know what it goes for. That 34 dump has promise for thr right price. The Harley guys may be disappointed. P.S. You wouldn't have heard about it until after the auction if I was going to bid on it. I'm not stooooopid.
Tommy, this was a belly tank once right? It looks like they may have retrofitted it for street duty. It's absurdly cool, what's not to like? How much are they expecting it to go for?
Sometimes cars like that go for nothing, cause nobody knows what its worth.. I would show up, and go for it. Turn in back into a bell tanker. Bid on some of those Harley Sprints while your there- Looks like the guy has a ton of em'!
Tommy, The belly tanker went for $22,000.00 plus. The dump truck went for $11,000.00 plus. Yet the '46 ford stake body only fetched $525.00. And a couple of the ford tractors were less than $1000.00, You just never know what people will pay.
I went by the auction at about 9:00am & there must have been 400 people there.Didn't look like the kind of place to find a good deal.I didn't have to skip out of work today afterall..
Thanks Dale. I should have figured you'd be there. There are just too many people with deep pockets and not enough cool stuff for us pikers.
Tommy .... I think I did Ok at the auction. Lets see for about $250 I got two truckloads of stuff I ended up with a pair of BLC headlights and foglights, a really old spotlight, a "fatman" steering wheel, a bermuda bell, a 97, 2 sets of 40 backing plates,2 sets of 37 spindles, a single 40's spindle, misc. tools and misc. flathead stuff(some NOS) Did I do OK? Clark
I'd say you scored real well. I never saw any of that kind of stuff in the pictures or I might have gone. You can score on that kind of stuff at those auctions. (Not as many builders. More of the "turn key'ers) I might have gone but I had no electricity for 2 days. Way to go!! I'm looking for a set of 37-41 spindles if you bought them for resale or I have a set of 48's for trade.
Tommy .. just picked up the rest of the stuff today. Got a couple 94s, some speedos out of early fords, a 40 glovebox door, the left over brass exhaust tubing from the belly tanker, and much more. Most of the good stuff was hiding in a small attic. What brakes fit the later spindles? Will the 50s Ford truck brakes fit them? The spindles were one of the things I got for myself but we may be able to work somethig out. Do you need any flathead stuff? I've got fans, water pumps, pulleys and more. Ive got some NOS stuff too. I think some of the NOS stuff is for the starters and some tranny gears. Let me know if you need any of it before I put it on Ebay. Hopefully the flathead stuff will pay for the cool stuff I want to keep. Clark
The F-1 11" brakes will fit either spindle with the right bearings and seals. I think I can make a spacer seen above for the round 37-41 spindle to adapt my Lincoln brakes. The square flange 42-48 doesn't fit as well. I've got a lathe but no CNC machine.
