Why do members post on classified threads?

Discussion in 'Questions & Suggestions' started by Kellys Hot Rod Parts, Mar 20, 2012.

  1. For those members that need a refresher co**** here are the rule when it comes to posting on cl***ified threads other than your own..........DO NOT POST "PM SENT" OR "EMAIL SENT". Some people do this whether they want the item or not. This hurts the other ads. If you want the thing feel free to post so. If you have questions about the item and the answer would be of interest to others, post it. If you want to send a PM for whatever reason then do it. Do not do both....... Once someone other than the posting member posts on the tread it makes it all but impossible to cancel the thread and then the posting really starts...Is this still for sale? so please dont post on cl***ified adds!

Perhaps its a reading comprehension problem. But I think the question posed is a rhetorical one; more of a declarative instruction.

That's a pet peeve of mine and some of them are senior members. I would say, hit the report ****on and get it deleted. They also notify the member of the infraction.

Sometimes I post on the thread if I see an obvious error that the OP Might not know about. My interest is 6 cylinder chevys and I see quite a few unintentional errors. Inevitably when I send the OP A PM It takes quite a while for him to make a correction and that can result in a lot of confusion.

I quit doing that because I got a couple PMs from the mods saying my comments were out of line and breaking the rules and therefore deleted. Seems to me like a little discretion would go along way to help out

I always wonder why someone posts............pm sent........obviously the poster will know you sent a pm, are you just wanting everyone else to know too? who cares, no announcement needed

Not everybody answers their pm's. So maybe they are just trying to make sure that the original poster knows they are interested in the ad.

Some people can't read, some people don't want to read and the other third believe the rules/guidelines are for somebody else, not them.

So its a wonder its not worse than it is.

I have done it but not for awhile. I got excited and thought I was in pm and posted my pm under the add.

If you advertise, check your PM's. It's pretty simple. If you don't check your PM's, you deserve to miss a sale. JMO

It would be so much better if people couldn’t re to ad’s / no re ****on.
New people seem to be the worst offenders. I think they come here from goggling what there lookin for….great for making an artificially high member number but screws up the cl***ifieds.

A member today said I would have better luck if the ad had a pix. It does at the top of page 1!

    slammed -

Actually, your cl***ified ad for the Hot Rod Movie marque poster DOES NOT have any pics of the item you have been trying to sell since April 16, 2011.

Perhaps you inadvertently deleted the pic (or pics) when you edited post #1 on 05-08-2011?

I'm thinkin' you owe curpspeed a public apology! :D

While we're at it, why post a 'For Sale' ad without a picture? The first thing a Buyer would want to see is what the part looks like.

I have read the rules and agreed to them. It seems posting in the add
    avoids any
confusion on who said what, for how much, who's first in line, is it still
for sale, who was first to say I'll take it, etc, etc, etc. Some boards have
a "NO PM's respond only in the add" rule to keep everything out in the open
on every deal. Maybe not an issue here but that way there are no "he said
she said" discussions. All details of every deal is made public.

Some old people don't know how to reply to pm's, or how to pm. Or what pm even means.

This thinking right there is the problem.

You think your first to reply because you did under the ad. But the reality is … the guy that posted the ad (seller) may not even look at it tell he go’s to bump it of edit in sold 3 or more days later.
You screwed yourself by not PMing a message.

Because they either don't take two minutes to read the rules, or like a lot of people anymore, don't think the rules apply to them.

I saw a 'wanted' post on the main board the other day where the guy admitted he knew it belonged in the cl***ifieds, but thought he'd get better response on the main board.

What's a shame is that many of the 'offenders' are one-post wonders or people who only post in/on ads.

Exactly! I'm on some other forums that do exactly that; ads are not in the same format as threads, the only ****ons are to Contact the Seller.

As long as we're *****in', I've been selling stuff on other forums recently and I'm sick of people jerking me around. Typical exchange:

1st PM: Do you still have it? (yeah, if I didn't I would have deleted it)

    [2 - 6 days p***]

2nd PM: How much is shipping? (no location/ZIP given)

I get the shipping costs figured up, PM them back, and never hear from them again. Multiply this by 4 or 5 guys for each piece. I'm ready to throw the stuff in the trash.
