Or you could go off on a tangent about how people like the reminders of the simple life. A time when American crafstmanship meant something. Maybe a reminder of their childhood. somethin like that.
because i can fix it with my own two hands and not a lap top because i like to sit on my fender and not cave it in because i like to see the old guys grin when i rumble by and yeah, the chicks dig it
A lot easier to work on than the new cars with no room to move around under the hood, and they look cool, and the fact that You can't buy American made cars like these anymore.
I like cars with a little HISTORY to them! New cars are just so sterile and lifeless...they haven't been anywhere and have no stories to tell yet...all that comes with time! The longer a car 'lives' the more character it builds, just like us humans! (Imagine if people were born fully grown...able to walk and talk from day one...they could get around and go places...but they'd be empty and lacking any real character until they've lived a while!). When you get into an old car, you see little reminders of the places it's been and the things it's seen...that ripped and tattered Yardbirds concert ticket under the seat, the 1964 World's Trade Fair sticker on the window, stuff like that. A car isn't really ALIVE until someone's made out in it, cried in it, puked out the window, bled on the seat, rushed a mother-to-be to the hospital in it, gotten their first ticket in it and so on....the intangible traces of those emotions soak into every nook and cranny, and just radiate out for all of eternity...collecting other such memories as time goes on.... Old cars have that to spare...new cars have to earn it slowly as they age to perfection!
well guys thanks i at least can start to write the speech.... Keep umm comming though 24 hours to write this speech....peice of cake....it's only 5-7 minutes..well thanks again..and keep up the good work YOUNG BUCK
Because cars have similar lines compared to a woman. Don't believe me? Look at the back window and fenders on a Fleetline. That's why cars give guys stiffys. Or maybe that's just me...........
I like drivin my old car becaause it is my one simple pleasure. I can hop in my car and turn a trip to the store into a fun adventure. FONZI
the feeling! If you guys say its true about getting the chicks im going to start driving my comet next week and all the ladies will see it in school, it isnt a stock comet eitheir! I hope this is true!!! Nate
I love Sci-Fi and Design. The 50's in my opinion had the best of both. The cars had extremely futuristic styling (even by todays standards). How many of todays cars make you think of Rockets, Jets or bombs? Also being a technician, I love a real challenge. Some of the features on the 50's cars were mind boggling for the time that they were produced (Example: my 1950 Buick has a, FACTORY, mercury switch operated trunk light). One last reason is you get to meet a lot of interesting people while driving around in an old "heap"! People who would otherwise look at you sideways, coame up and start asking questions or tell you about their parents Desoto...
new cars don't have a soul, except for possibly a few such as a viper. Otherwise they are built to be the most economical (as in build cost), highest profit, simplest vehicle possible. Why are there so many SUVs? cause they have the highest profit margin.
[ QUOTE ] they are a hell of a lot less expensive than a new car [/ QUOTE ] huh i must be doing something wrong. I enjoy the style and astetics of the "old" cars, the kool factor is one million times that of a late models, I can get parts for and work on my own ****, to piss off tree huggers, to get from point "a" to point "b" with as much style as possible, because I'm fat and ugly and i need to ofset this fact, and the number one reason...........because I want to.
There's also the satisfaction of taking something and bringing it back from the dead & giving it new life while learning new interesting stuff along the way. When I see something I put on the road I feel like a proud parent and the doctor who delivered the baby all rolled into one. Of course, sometimes the baby pisses in your eye...
Like the rest of you, I love to drive old tin! To me, my old beast is my work of art on wheels or a place I can go to get away from the day to day stresses. It warms my heart when young kids on the street or in the back of mom.s wagon give you the thumbs up and they don't even know what their looking at but to their young minds it's a cool car! But where the big payoff comes to being in this lifestyle is where a guy like me can meet the very best people, that share the same p***ion!
Well Y.Buck, yes I am working, that's why I haven't been here. Old cars to me bring back the days of my childhood when the old Fords were not just hotrods but also the everyday drivers for those whom couldn't afford the new 50-60 cars. I guess it's a feeling that's hard to describe. Driving them give me a sense of pride in accomplishment, Joy in seeing the faces and talking to people who admire the vehicle and the person who made it happen. But most importantly, the feeling of all the good times in my childhood. Its like riding with the souls from the past. From the hard working people who created and manufactured them to the middle cl*** man who started the day with a cup a coffee, a metal lunchbox and a kiss from his housewife, jumping into the dampish mohair smelling car to get him to the plant before the whistle blows. Its like carrying and reliving those times when hard work actually made you a Middle American. Hows That??
New cars and trucks that all look alike, Mc Doanlds burgers, Rap and "Hot New Country", repairing things by replacing modules, talk radio that looks to blame somebody and George W. Distinctive design, Pontiacs with chrome down the middle, Buicks with port holes, sinister, sneaky chopped Mercs, roadhouse BBQ, real honest to God country music with fiddles and steel guitars, following a wire to see what it goes too, radio without vitriol and a large playlist, opening doors for ladies, taking responsibility, Harry Truman. You do the math. Most currently made things and a lot of current thought is shaby and dishonorable. Driving my old ride, playing honky tonk music and patronizing the small business says I don't want to buy into that ****.
How many new cars will make a child smile and point it out when you drive by? How many new cars will cause a stranger to come up and say hi and ask what the car is or what year it is? Now many new cars does an older person recognize and bring back the good memories from their younger days? These are just a few reasons I drive my 37 Chevy truck everyday. Old cars bring happiness to both myself and others.
Because every single one of us is certifiably insane It also helps us stand out from the crowd. We like being leaders, not followers.
Because I feel like a **** when I'm driving my work van or the wife's Honda station wagon. I have deep seated inferiority issues that I cover up by pretending to be cool when I'm in an old car. I also have a small wiener.
Have you ever been cruising and seen a kids face smashed against the side window of the car next to yours, with his jaw resting on the window ledge? Remember when it was you? Thats why... Bugman, I'm not a leader. I follow my own path. If I see somenone following behind, I ditch 'em.

But it's true, New cars don't have the same character that they used to. They don't have that spirit of American enginuity and being on the for front. Styling has become mondaine to the point that they look cloned all in the name of economey and aero dynamics. And forget working on them. Unless you have a degree in computure science anything out side of the engine block is untouchable without a laptop and dealer code manuall. I think those of us that turn to old cars have a sence of imagination, history and need to be unique that draws us to a time when life was not only simpilar but more creative and inspiring.
Cause I like to. They make me smile and they make other people smile too when they see them. I'm can get behind the wheel of most old cars and just sit there with a big **** eating grin without even starting the car.
