Why do whitewall tires cost so much?

    Because they're worth it.

My Diamond Back 255/55-R18 w/ 2.5" WWW cost $289 each.

They're based on a Sumitomo HTR Sport H/P which I could buy from TireRack.com with the black sidewalls for just $149.

Difference of $140. Over 4 tires that's an extra $560.

But it makes the car look a million dollars. NOT doing it would be silly :)

Obviously in the Diamond Back example you're paying more because you're paying them for a service they provide. In the Coker example, supply and demand.

But at the end of the day, whatever your preference, worth it.

If you're complaining about the prices, just be glad you don't pay the shipping prices I get to deal with! :)

I work at a manufacturing plant. Our product is more expensive than pretty much all of our competition which is mainly overseas. Our customers will bitch over the price and leave us from time to time and buy from these overseas suppliers. Its only a matter of time before they return to our product!. Our product is more expensive due to alot of factors, raw material prices, operating cost including labor, it all adds up! I'm sure our company is making money, hell they need to. They must be doing something right.....been in business for over 20yrs

They just look smoking hot on the caddy! Soon as I need new tires I would spend the extra 5 bills for whiteywalls. Doesn't anyone paint them on anymore,,I thought I had seen that back in the 60's. I would never put cheap tires on a vehicle,,went that route once, the tires were returned to store within a month for a full refund. I thought I had a front end issue and it was the friggin tires pulling and shaking!
