Technical why does my Muncie 4 speed grind going into reverse?

Did you choose an American dictionary? English is,I’ve heard the hardest language to learn, reason being the borrowing of words from other languages, but American ( English) is not English. Hell here in Canada we can’t understand the east coast guys, yet they proffess to speak it, English that is, and when speaking to someone from British background they say we’re out to lunch as well. My second and third grade teachers were Dutch South Africans, well talk about confusion, words they used I could not find in a Canadian dictionary, regional colloquialism play hob with it , the language that is the word spigot I’ve only seen spelled with one g
