I had never gone to the 'second' Paso before this year, and I probably won't ever again... The main reason I ended up going this year was to meet up with Rickyracer to pick up some parts... Thanks Rick, Flip and I are stoked..!! But I tell you, it took maybe 40 minutes to see everything there... the cars, vendors, etc., were all on the lawn area, with I'd say probably 1/2 of the lawn not even touched... and there were no cars parked on the street area at all..!! There was maybe 5 or 6 cars that even grabbed my attention... it was mostly just grandpa's with their billet-mobiles, and stock 60's cars... and barely any earlier(30's) cars or 'low-buck' cars... Hmmmm...maybe I just answered my own question... What the fuck..??
is the spring paso still good? i heard that its turning into more of a rockabilly fest? is this true? i hope not. is there more mini vans than rods? thanks -jeff

the Spring Paso is cool for the cruise, the sheer amount of cars, and stuff going on... I'm not in the 'Blah-blah-billy scene' so it doesn't bother me too much... it seems like NOTHING was going on this weekend... more like a setting for a club BBQ or some shit... wierd, that's all...
I got a really good looking girls number there, so I'm not complaining! Plus I got a beer from Groucho and got to drool over that flat red 51 merc, chopped black on black 38 ford infront of the inn, and light gloss blue 4dr chevy fastback, DAMN! So it was a decent day, -peter
You could have came up to SUCKRAMENTO for the annual binge,, We had to celebrate the death of the "LAST AMERICAN WHITE BOY".... Harvester FLAKED out. But I will fuck him at "The rockabilly GOOD GUYS" show next week,,in antioch........ The party will wind down tonight,,,, Were tired.. I think the LABOR day PASO is more for the "TOWN" then it is FOR the west coast kustoms"... I went once but then I ended up crying cause none of my FAVORITE SO-CAL FAGGOTS were there to COMB their HAIR, and stare at my chicks tits........ Anyways JACK,, back to CELEBRATING JOHNNY CASH and his LIFE.... Need to get that KID to tattoo me? ADAM at your shop... I need a big penis, with a flathead four banger, mounted on the shaft... and a big banner that says ROCKIN' the FORESKIN LOTS of LOVE,, GERM
Paso Robles is at a weird crossroad right now-- May Paso has gotten a little too big, no hotel rooms, and drunk butterhead teen scensters with no cars drinking/ fighting... But its still pretty fun overall September Paso is more mellow, low amount of scensters, but it sounds like a low amount of cars this year too... If enough cool cars/ people start showing up at Sept. Paso, maybe it will turn out better than the May event. jay
This was my first trip to Paso for the September show. I think it sucked ass as well. Maybe 6 cars I actually liked. Got to hang with McPhail and meet some Beatniks. Hetfield was there too. I kinda figured everyone was getting ready for Billet Proof. All I know is I am sticking with the Paso Memorial Day show from here on out.
this all reminds me of when jimmy went back to brighton on the "5:15" to meet up with Ace and discovered he was just a "bellboy". sorely dissapointed he was. Hey bigmouth- we missed you in santa cruz last night......
If you go to a car show, cruise, concert, round-up, whatever you wantacallit, with the anal-litical mind of a Roger Ebert between your ears there AIN'T NO WAY you can possibly have any FUN, because you aren't there to have fun. You are there on a self assigned WORK ASSIGNMENT to anal-ize what other people are doing or not doing in there effort to entertain YOU which is impossible because You didn't come to the thing with a mind open to being entertained. You came there with a mind set on ANAL-izing and criticizing that which you really should be taking part in not just observing. Paso isn't something you go LOOK AT. Paso is something you go DO and if it sucks it's because the part of it that YOU did SUCKS! Maybe that figures out to be a collective YOU SUCK, but there isn't any set program of entertainers employed to be there just to entertain YOU. I know a guy (Who's in Winfield's generation) who usually takes trophies for his car(s) at Paso who has quit going and offered me his motel reservation. He quit going because he couldn't get any sleep at the motel because a certain club of RAT RODDERS insists on staying up all fuckin' night partying in the parking lot. "Just not like the Paso it used to be" He says... Sound familiar? So who's making it suck for who? Now I'm not knocking traditional rods or rat rods or even "death rods". although Paso is supposed to be about customs and Kustoms, with rods not turned away. I'm condemning the drunken, obnoxious, scenesters who are causing the on-foot (or on hands and knees) agrivation to a lot of the people who won't be there anymore to "entertain you" because of it. (I hate noisy fuckin kids anyway) (and my keyboard capitalized words long before I ever knew germ existed)

Went to the cruise on Friday. A low car count and even lower crowd count. I think the fact that the Labor Day show is no longer on Labor Day is the biggest factor. To many other things going on. IE school, football games and so forth. Apparently the bikers have taken over the town on Labor Day and the founding fathers don't want to put on additional law enforcement on that weekend for the car crowd. No doubt some of the rowdy crowd have influenced this from days past. Put it back on Labor Day weekend!
DrJ- Believe me, if you had gone to both Paso shows this year, you would have asked the same question... there really weren't very many cars, customs or hotrods, there at all... just curious as to why..?? I went with total curiosity hoping for lots to look at... it just wasn't the case compared to the spring show... big bummer for a 2 hour drive each way is all...too little to look at... ...Snacky & Ebert...
[ QUOTE ] there really weren't very many cars, customs or hotrods, there at all... just curious as to why..?? [/ QUOTE ] That's not an easy question to answer, if it was, there sure would be alot more people in the show promotion business. For me, the forecasted high 90's temperatures had me thinking twice before going. I gotta agree, this was the lightest turn out of interesting cars I'd seen in a while. Here's some pics of those.
Thanks for the pics, Mikes51! From what I can see...maybe ya'll are getting jaded. I think you have so many good events with so many cool rides that expectations are too high, now. Hell, just drivin' around L.A. or San Diego on any given day of the week you get to see more decent/interesting cars and bikes than you'll see at a San Antonio Friday night cruise spot. Enjoy whatcha got...it COULD be worse...alot worse. Like somebody else pointed out...if more of you made a point to show up in the fall, maybe you could make the fall Paso more fun, for ya'll, than the spring Paso. Just my $.02...not that anybody asked.
"Shows" are what you make of them. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of large shows with lots going on, lots to see and do, BUT, smaller, laid back ones, such as what you experienced last weekend can be an opportunity to actually meet, shake hands and have an indepth conversation with some of the folks that were there. From the photos that Mike posted it looks like there were some really nice rides there. Can't say that I know any of those folks personally at this point. That would be different if I had attended the show. I would have introduced myself to ones that were near their cars, told them how much I like their car, ask them to tell me alittle about it, asked some specific questions, maybe learned a thing or two in the process, not to mention I would have left that weekend with a few more folks as friends. IMHO there is more to a car show then just the amount of cars that are there, the people play a much greater role in my enjoyment of an event.
Ditto what Denise said... I want to know something... Those of you bitching about how the "show" sucked... Did you bring a super cool bitchin custom to the show to add to the ambiance, or did you park your rust bucket of your wife's SubaHonDatota non-sports-sedan two blocks away for free and walk over to see what other people spent there hard labor, love, and money on? These gatherings of like minded people with there cars may be called "shows" but it's really a miss-use of the term. It's nothing like a stage show or a picture show where a set program is romoted and paid for by the show production company in hopes that you will pay them back to see it. These shows, (for the most part) are more like organized parties in the park, like a family reunion, with the entry fee (for the most part) going to pay for security and use of the public space by a specific group for the day. It's mainly for the people who comprise the gathering of people. If it was a production show for the walk-ins who don't have a car in the "show" they would be charging them admission! Like the indoor shows are. Now if an indoor pay to get in show sucks I can see you having a right to bitch. Now pipe down kids.
