I'll try and find you a pic of mine when I first bought it. It was more a street machine than a custom. 40Studedude on here has one of the wilder 57's in existence. It's a real nice piece

I agree fully. I guess because they are so recognizable by EVERYONE they are worth more in stock form.
This one was posted the other day.

I've seen a few mild customs that look great, IMO the look best when you lose any gold trim that may have been on them, especially the grill. Nosing really helps the look. I hate that V and Chevrolet script.

Deyo, that one you posted looks to be a 56.
Maybe, 40Studedude will post a pic of his radicl 57.

Its real hard to believe, but EVERYONE asks me what kind of car my 57 is! Even people old enough to have been there when it was new.

Anyone able to scan a picture of the scalloped '57 with the Buick grille that was in Hot Rod magazine back in the day ? Always liked the look of that (Think there may have been a matching Triumph (bike, not Herald) in the feature).

there at lots of mild customs out there but today most are running around with modern suspensions underthem and larger diameter tires. running filled hoods, shaved trim, modified grills etc.. I will look thru my collection of pics also..

<font color="green">There was a MAJORLY customized 57 at the StrayKat 500 last year or year before.

It had so much done to it I did not recognize it as a 57 right off the bat.

I'll see if I can find some pics.

    Found some at www.carnut.com...

That would be Rogers (40 Studedude) Radical 57!
Look at the lines that thing has! He has no fear.
Every part of the car has been reshaped, with an eye towards accenting the famous lines but still changing them.
NOT an easy job to pull off but he did it with style.
That car is DRIVEN everywhere too...and I mean "across state lines" everywhere. NOT just around town.
Roger "Walks the walk..." as does his brother Dan.

Here is one that I saw a few years back. The back of the photo says "Goodguys Charlotte 1997". I remember it being a real nice car, and I was glad to see someone actually kustomized a 57 Chevy! As I remember, there was a kustomized 55 post model parked very close by this one.

Yep, that Mint Green chopped '57 is mine...and those photos were taken at the Stray Kat 500 last year...that car does get driven!!!

Howsomever, before that one was done...I did up a two-ten model...mind you, my cars aren't tail draggin' skirted kustoms like in the fifties...the green one is done "mid-sixties" style (save for the wheels) and the gray one (attached) is a "nineties" style kustom...everything painted and powder-koated.

The larger problem with '57's is that they are not easy to kustomize...and make them look good...of course, I've had plenty of practice at it...I bought my first '57 in 1961...and have NEVER been without at least one my whole life...even owned thirty of those animals at one time...

I agree, its hard to do much and make them look good. I have a 4dr HT and about as wild as I'm going to get is lowered, louvers on the hood, shave all 4 handles and nose it.
For me is if I don't go to crazy with it I can sell it to someone down the road who may want to restore it or something.

Because the vast majority of '57 Chevies are owned by potbellied greybeards who's idea of customizing their Robin's Egg Blue monstrosity is putting a continental kit on it or IROC wheels. In about another 20 years the market will be flooded with them from estate sales 'cuz these*****ers that own them want to wait until the last minute when they are worth more, but they will be dead. Hah!

P.S., have fun cleaning out all of their crybaby dolls and poodle skirts and fake car hop tray plastic food and $3.00 trophies from the trunk. '57 Chevies*****...

    That looks like a '56, not a '57.

    Here's one from 1959...

Am I the only person who thinks the '56 is wayyyy better looking then the '57? They have too much***** on the quarter panels.

Why would you want to customize a Chevy, it will still just be a Chevy.

'57's are gay. My opinion is formed by all the stock jobs that show up at rod and custom shows. WTF?!?!? The cars are fine it's just who they are so popular with that gets me. ***** the 50's and doowop and drive-in trays and timeout dolls and fanny packs and comb-overs and fat guys in hawaiian shirts and old rich guys who get rooms at Paso Robles Inn and poodle skirts and ......well you get the idea.

The typical 57 owner seems to think the 50's was one big sock hop.

So, in conclusion***** UP THOSE 57's (cut, weld, chop, section and shave it all off!)and piss off the soon to be dead old*****s.

    Oops..sorry.

I was gonna say, just before Ron posted those pics of the scalloped black 57, that the only guys who regularly "customize" 57's are the lowrider set.

Personally, I have a hard time imagining any treatment, other than lowrider that I think would really look good on 57 Chevies. I think they're just a car that doesn't have alot of custom potential... But maybe that's just my lack of vision...

  30. Its not that they dont have potential, its that the lines on them stock are so good that in they are difficult improve upon, aside from shaving and the like.
