As a car guy I am pretty excited with my 'new' hood. Wife and others not so excited, so I thought to post it up here on the HAMB. Not in the best shape, but I have been searching for 2 years for an Auburn V 12 hood. They are 6" longer than the 8 cylinder models. (more louvers too) But why are (seemingly) all used parts always painted some kind of red? maybe its just me
Gee, you would think everyone and their brother would have a V12 Auburn hood hanging on the wall! Seriously, that must have been hard to find......... red oxide hides a lot, but at least it deters the rust..........
Same reason all survivor customs found in barns have a studded snow tire on the left front. Nice score on the hood...kind of a rare item. -Abone.
Ok. Seriously now. Most oxide primers of reputable quality were 25 or so years ago - red. Most car guys from that era used them and still do. How's that for a theory ?
Thanks guys, not really complaining, just a conversation starter I put the hoods on last night, but the car looks like a patchwork quilt with everything a different color. the weird thing is that I found it not 5 miles from my house!!
blowby- thanks, I should have seen that coming!!!! Hope to be driving it soon! ( not finished, but drive-able)
Nice score on the hood, living in the heartland of A-C-D country hopefully makes it easier to score parts for your Auburn.
I'm just messing with you because I'm laid up and bored. In a few days I'll be up and about again. Would like to see pics of the car that the hood is going on.
Nah, got it from another Auburn collector/builder Clem- if you click on the link in my sig, you can see tons of pics of my build wolfcreek steve- that truck is AWESOME! is it for sale??
Just checking. My Dad once looked for years for a parts car for an early Pierce Arrow. He needed the back section of the touring body. He eventually found one, 4 states away. The paint matched and so did the marks where it was cut off- it was the original section.
a few years back i got in a conversation at the gas station with a guy with a bright red ford lightning pickup. asked him if the cops pulled him over much, and he said "at least once a week!" i grinned and said, "you had to have a red one, didn't you!"
