    A. Cuz I got no mad skills.

    B. Cuz I haven't picked up a torch in 30 some years.

    C. Cuz I got no equipment.

    D. All of the above.

    Answer: Before yesterday, D.

Somebody on here has a great tag line; "Cars are made out of metal, learn how to weld." Yup, its past time for me. So yesterday I took delivery of one of these new Henrob torches. It comes with all sorts of little tips and cutting accessories.

So, for somebody just starting out with this stuff, any suggestions? Auto-darking helmet? Any particular type or brand of gas regulator? Welding rods? I'm at the bottom of the learning curve here, but every thing that I've seen posted on the Henrob says its a good piece of equipment to work with.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this unit. Kinky6.

aint a Henrod one of them odball torches?

no need for an auto darkening helmet, just good cutting shades.

What is the velocity of an unladen Henrob?
How much does a henrob weigh?
Got tanks? That's all I need for my new Victor Torch.
Come to think of it, I still need a tank for the mig too.
Too bad you can't just feed 'em burritos. Works for me!
Can't believe how expensive all this shit's gotten.
The welding equipment is worth more than the projects. [IMG]

  5. #3 shades, 18 ga sheet metal 1/16" mild steel rod. That's where I'd start.

  10. You don't need a helmet to gas weld. FWIW I used a snap on "chin" helmet for years. Fucker worked great for MIG welding.

Ive been using the Henrob (actually have 2) for about 4 years now and friggin love it.
I have been welding for almost 50 years so didnt have any problem getting used to it.
For someone starting out I hear they have a great video, dunno as I got mine at an auction (complete with regulators and hose) and a yard sale.

I use the same goggles I use with my full size Harris. Auto darkening helmets ARE NOT for O/A welding.
Bought a set of mini 40 cu ft tanks and cart so it is super easy to move around.

Since you will be running very low pressures you should invest in a good set of 2 stage regulators. I was able to find a very nice low pressure set for the 2nd setup at a welders supply; made in Taiwan but they do a good job and the price was right.

Again, get the video and start practicing. In no time you can be a feature article in a rod mag showing how to hammer weld.
