I am so sorry for your loss. As a ten year firefighter I do understand what you are going thru. Stay positive and keep going. It could have been worse.

I had full coverage but they will only give me blue book value which is about half what it was worth

Years ago I had a similar experience, & I'm sorry to hear of yours. The biggest problem in my situation, is that i couldn't replace much of what I had lost. The good news, IMO, is that neither you, nor your loved ones were injured in the incident. I hope your "road back" to recovering from this is not long & difficult. Hang in there. Good Luck!

  15. that really sucks..sorry to hear about your loss

but let this be a lesson for the rest of us..always do a fire watch for a least 1/2 hour after welding , grinding or anything that makes sparks or heat

man that got to suck sorry for your loss however you could always fight with the insurance about the value of your car i did once after an auto accident they wanted to only give me 400 hundred bucks for my vw that was chopped and had custom paint anyway long story short i called a guy in my area to draw up a estiment (sp) on what all the work would of cost and then presented that to the insurance company it help out a bit they ended up given me nearly 3 grand for it which still didnt make it any better but it was better than gettin 400 for it anyway just an idea

This isn't any help right now, but will be in the future, and is important for the rest of us:

A guy at work lost his garage and house to a fire. He had fire alarms all over the house, but none in the garage (where the fire smoldered all night before it burst into flames). As a person who has more valuables in the garage than the house, I took this to heart, and got an alarm for the garage.

My place has been burgled twice in the last 4 years, and my insurance agent gave me some advise: don't have another claim for 7 years or we will drop you, and no one will pick you up. These insurance guys are not your friend anymore. Heads-up, their first mission in life is to give you the least amount of money, all the while holding your hand like you are their boyfriend.

  18. I feel for you man, fucking insurance companys! I lost everything I owned in a bushfire a few years ago, sucks dont it. The pricks didnt give me half of the value of what I lost. You work hard, spend that hard earned cash on your gear, insure it, paying more of that hard earnd and then when you need em, they fuck you.
Only ever got something out of insurance once, when I was in the army my tool kit was stolen from my barracks room, 8 grands worth! From a restricted entry base, in a special security area of the base. A tool kit that would have taken 4 people to lift and a ute to take away and no one saw anything?? WTF?? They payed up though.
    Doc.

If you have pix of what was done...take it to an appraiser...they can usually set a value for you that you can present to the insurance co.

Shit man, I feel terrible for you. This is at least the 2nd or 3rd time Ive seen a post like this, the last one was a while back on the MSN Flathead board, a really nice guy lost his whole shop along with his sweet old ford with a full house flathead, he posted pics and all. It makes me sick to think about it.

I got a policy on my 51 that is just comprehensive, the pickup isnt even done yet, but the policy will reimburse me for what I have into it (which is more than it is worth). It might be something some of you HAMBers may want to look into to, it doesnt cost much. You are still out all that labor, but at least you would get some cash to get another car to start on.....

Hire an insurance adjuster. They will fight your battle and get 10% of the final settlement, which is going to be more than what the insurance company would give you. They know the rules and how the game is played. I am going thru this now after Hurricane Wilma.

All we can say is we are sorry that it happened to you. It won't help your pain to know that you are not alone in this. I too lost everything in a garage fire with no insurance. 39 Willys, motorcycle, 2 mini bikes and every tool I owned.

All we can say is hang in there. It takes time for it to heal. It will heal and someday you will be telling others about your garage fire. I remember people around me not realizing how important that the loss was for me. I do understand how it feels. There ain't no magic button to make things OK again. It takes time and a new project to get over the loss.

Dude, I know it's greif talking right now but ANYTHING that can be fixed with $$ isn't really that bad in this life. I have a friend who was told BOTH of his two little daughters have Cystic Fibrosis (no cure, certain death) that's trouble.
There will be another car, another garage, more tools. Go hug your family and put this in prospective.
Sorry for your loss. God bless.

check into it- your homeowners MAY cover them -fight it if they say no.
At least the family is ok.
