I lurk on this message board and while I cannot agree with some of the Hambers, I find that I do like the displays of craftmanship and some of the unique ideas presented. My question is: Why is there no coverage of the Evansville Iron's Frog Follies event. This show seems to be right on target for the Hamb Group, no trailers, no cars newer than 1948, 4000 cars (mostly home built), the show is priced right and a is great way to spend a weekend. I don't understand why this show is not the Meca for Hambers, I know many of you have been there. Pete Peterson Been to all of them.
Do a search of the threads...... there are 4 or 5 threads on here with pictures and such from the frog follies....
There no HAMB team of media provocateurs just you me and us. "Why is there no coverage of the Evansville Iron's Frog Follies event" Your the first maybe here to be interested in it? I'm just taking a wild guess here don't be hatin... I checked it out real quick and for starters it's sponsored by a streetrod club and here streetrods are not hotrods, there looked at as more of gold chainer glam rides and trailer queens and an apostacy to traditional hot rodding. Same extreme from hot rodding as the Ratrod with their spiderwebs and skullz but at the bejeweled Liberache end of the spectrum of old cars. P.S. Howdy Pete, Nice to meet you
As mentioned before, there are some posts here. Just search. Keep in mind though, the HAMB Drags is on the same weekend. I've been to both. While the Frog Follies is a very nice show and a dirt cheap weekend for the family, the HAMB Drags is just outrageous.
a better question would be why haven't you posted any coverage of it? or..why haven't your participants posted any pictures? nothing gets coverage here until someone takes pictures and posts them. i'm sure many here would be interested
Here's a few pics I posted from this years show. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=393069
Pete, Like me, you're close enough to go to the Frogs every year. It's a really cool show, and literally thousands of pre '49 cars packed into the fair grounds for four days. The only problem is that it is a "streetrod show". Coverage here is minimal because the traditional hot rods are few and far between. Now I know that there are more and more Hamb friendly cars every year, but until more Hambers attend the show, the coverage will be small on this board.
A lot of the people around my area would be what most people on here call "street rodders". And if you ask them what kind of car they have they would say a street rod. I personally do not know many that I would call a "gold chainer". Most of these people either build there own stuff or buy something that someone else has started and finish or redo it to there taste and ability. Most all of there cars if you took the billet wheels off of them and put a set of steelies on them they would fit right in on here. I do not know of any in my area that I would call a "rat rod" I think most of the people in my area take more pride in there stuff than do drive that kind of shit around. Although a persons taste in a perticular car or type of car may not be to my liking I can still appreciate the time and effort they put into it and if they are happy when it gets done thats all that matters in the end. JMO.
I posted pics too, weeks ago. They had 5,500 there this year record breaking year. Plus there is a cruise in in October not far from E'ville that is very traditional rod friendly. Hanson cruise in, Hanson, KY October 3rd a Saturday night deal!
If you used the search function, and punched in "Frog Follies" then you would have seen that Flipper took pics @ the show, as well as studenut48
WE already have a Meca , Its the HAMB drags! As someone else pointed out its on the same weekend as "The Frog"
Whats the draw of a mecca. I've never felt the compunction to travel to a place where people beat themselves over the head with swords and yell death to me
I have been to the Frog Follies and did not enjoy myself. Even if it wasn't on the same weekend as the HAMB Drags, of which I have not missed one ever, I would stay home before I attended the Frog Follies again......an event where even in the pouring rain, early on Friday morning, I could NOT find a decent parking spot because of all the chairs, tents, yellow caution tape and tarps that were staked down on the ground saving spots. POURING rain on a Friday morning and I'm cruising around the fairgrounds looking for a spot while those that had "staked out their claim on Thursday, cuddled under the covers in their hotel rooms waiting out the rain. I did park, walked around for a couple of hours with a bad taste in my mouth while viewing streetrods covered in frogs, and I mean covered, (they must have some sort of contest) and left for home by noon. Yes drove from Detroit to Evansville, IN, stayed a couple of hours and drove home knowing I'll never go back.
Well now, if Denise so no go, I doubt it is going to become a Hamb Mecca. I trust Denise knows what a good show is, she's been to a couple. Frogs on the cars, really? That alone would have me turning around.
I have photos of this but it was pre-digital camera for me. I'll see what I can do about scanning and posting. At least the photos would be good for a chuckle.
Its a good show, Not very many Hamb type cars though, But gets to be more every year. I have gone for many years and yes there is always a couple cars with frogs all over them but I can over look 15 cars with frogs out of 4000 cars. The Swap meet gets bigger and bigger every year.
Frog legs are pretty good eatin'. Seriously, our Mecca is Joplin and MoKan. For the most part we are about running our cars not power parking although there were an alarming number of cars on the pit side this year that never made a pass.
unless the management has a policy allowing spot saving... put a car in that hole or i'm bundling up your junk and parking ... no saving
Sorry this show has given you a bad taste Denise but it is a great show. I havent seen too many shows that people didnt save parking spots for friends. We have gone for six years now and enjoy the show. They also donate thousands of dollars to the easter seals foundation.
Denise, Sorry about your bad experience at the follies, I bet if you'd brought out some cookies.....................
