I've got an '89 smallblock and just wondering about the intake. I'd like to get rid of the tbi and go carb. Is it as simple as using a stock intake off an older 350 and bolt it on?
On your engine, ***uming 1989 heads, you can use an older (pre-87, IIRC) intake by either elongating the center 4 intake holes, or using the angled washers (probably preferred methos) as shown in an earlier pic. BTW, I'm sure there are correct carb'ed intakes for these engines now.
I'm sure there's a carb intake for the these intakes out there. It just so happens I've got an old intake that I'd rather use. Thanks for the info.
Ya, been close to 15 years, but I think you still have to elongate the center holes no matter what, even with the beveled washers.
Quantum sales, Jason Guzik was my contact, JGuzik@newgmparts.net. It is the same engine that was in my 1998 GMC pickup. Great guy to work with, they are back east but the engine came out of texas. He even ran my VIN numbers on my truck just to be sure it was the same. Changed the oil on it today with 800 miles on it and it was super clean. Has used about 3/4 a quart of oil which is understandable with a new engine.
I run one also,no you can't run older intake on vortec heads . ports will not match even if you could bolt it on ! Plan on a flex plate also. hard to beat a brand new engine for $2300 bucks my 350/330 runs very strong for a just slightly tweeked engine.have seen a olds lookin valve cover that work on center bolts not to bad . Good Luck...
be careful changing water pump to standard rotation there is no by p*** whole drilled in the block . standard rotation have a third hole in the pump on the right side flange ,reverse rotate does not
I guess you guys are talking about running vortec heads? I got a used airgap for $100, and there are cheap knockoffs on ebay for $150 or so. I know the EQ heads can run either manifold.
