  2. A few years back, GM came out with a metallic lime green (synergy green) that affects me about the same way as getting ass grabbed by a beautiful woman. Definitely not a traditional color, (and would probably ruin an otherwise nice traditional car) but like that beautiful woman, I can't get it out of my mind, guess I'll have to paint my truck that color just to see how it looks

  3. i think we have to now, i am pretty sure under the new policy we have to make america grape again.......or something like that........

  4. Guards Red is what covers my '47. In bright sunlight you need to wear shades.
It also difficult to photograph in bright light. It appears orange oddly enough.[IMG]

  5. I was very content with a simple in process look to our '32. The no maintenance look as I termed it.
Road grime, tar, and oil spots were a bear to deal with though. An abrasive sponge and dish washing soap was the most effective way to clean it.
My wife was on my case for years to get it finished. Finally after 5 months of pouring over color charts and getting nowhere she blurted out to me she wanted it painted the same color as her Toyota Solara.
I had already test paneled for her yellow, light green, copper and finally dark blue.
    Nope.... none of the above.
Her Solara is white. Now she wanted the roadster in the same color. After 6 or 7 months it's starting to grow on me but it's her roadster so it's her choice.
    I'm only the grunt. She's the boss.[IMG]

  6. I still liked this look better but she won this round.[IMG]

I guess I'm still stuck in the 60's

She voted for shiny this time around.

I'm not a fan of white cars. It makes me think the owner couldn't make their mind and decided on a blank canvas. BUT, it looks good on your car. For a Hot Rod, white is different and can look... dare I say it.... elegant.

  8. I thought seriously about repainting my '40 sedan Maroon or Cloudmist Gray; looks great on a coupe. But after looking at lots of pictures of sedans finally came to the conclusion that it was just "too much" of a good thing on the large expanse of a sedan. So... it'll be black, just like it's been since 1940.

And to me, white is a fleet color. My previous employer ended up with lots of white Chevy pickups. Still cringe when I see one of them on the road...

  9. on the right car, white can be the perfect choice. it all depends on the car.
white related story: there was a guy who worked for a local dairy who did the body repairs to the tankers/delivery trucks. he would paint cars/trucks on the side ONLY if it was any color other than white...........

    Hello,
My first car was black. (1958 Chevy Impala) With a million coats of Cadillac Blue Coral Wax on it, the shine was show quality and very deep. But during that late 50’s early 60’s time period, our So Cal cars had color. Every color in the book. Being cash strapped teenagers, if a color change was necessary, it was going to be an Earl Schieb paint job. Many bags of groceries had to be bagged in order to afford even a paint job from Earl Schieb, let alone a custom shop. As bad as that sounds, today, some of the E.S. paint jobs were good. Silver, white, come to mind, with little orange peels and swirls.

My friend’s 56 post Chevy got a silver paint job and after we buffed it out and put on some Blue Coral, it looked new. Not deep like black, but a new silver paint job. His car looked even better after we drove to Mexico to get some tuck and roll upholstery. (found out later that there was straw, not foam, in the rear seat back.) But, they could never duplicate the darker colors, purple, black and blue of the custom paint houses. Those took special care (and money), as they do today, but still cost more money than we could afford.

If you were lucky, the car you bought already had a great color and that saved tons of future drive-in food money. Later on, when I had a choice to paint, sell the car, and/or buy a new one, red came to mind. But, as I found out, the color red/orange is a “ticket magnet, more so than a chick magnet…”

Today, it is fun looking at which color looks cool and stays the cleanest after daily driving. Pearl white metallic does not show dirt even after a heavy downpour for days in So Cal…I know, rain in So Cal? (factoid…we have not watered our yard since mid October 2016) But it does stay cleaner than other colors. Of course, silver is always the cleanest car in the neighborhood as silver does not show anything other than scratches from those idiots who make parking lot door dings.

My first set of wheels that gave me the freedom to go wherever I wanted was yellow (73 Yamaha GT80), Then at age 12 I saw American Graffiti. So I guess subliminally yellow is etched in my brain. When I found my Deuce in a garage years later, it too was yellow. Sold the 32 to finance a house and built the 29 sedan and painted it yellow. A buddy who is a long time hot rodder told me there are only 3 hot rod colors, red, black, or yellow. Not sure I fully agree. Color is a personal thing. So like other guys have said, as long as its not a pink graphic job from the 80's, its your car, who gives a damn about what others think.
