Hi everyone, I have a set of four wheels that look like regular 1936-1939 ford wheels but they are 17" ? they seem to take the same hubcaps and everything looks very similar, just 1" bigger? any idea on what they are off of? Value? They all seem to be in good shape and are Ford stamped.
are you measuring them from lip to lip with a measuring tape?(with no tire on them?) if that is the case,then they are 16's
I would guess they are 16's as well. There were 16's and 18's. The 16's would measure just over 17" od and the 18's would measure just over 19 on the od.
Well, I knew they were not 16's but I just went and dug them out and I was wrong, they are 18". So, what is the history on these and value? full set of four, and they have clips for regular hubcaps. Thanks for the info ( I don't know why I remembered them as 17"!?!?)
please post pics if possible. The 18" wide 5s centres are visually different to the 16s so can say for sure if they are 18". They were an accessory wheel and were on 3/4 tonne trucks.
How many PM's have you recieved from guys wanting them? They are big money. I would love to have a set but haven't been lucky enough to find any yet. I think a pair goes for around $1500. Clark
Had a few PM's, nothing wrong with that. I don't want to try to get top dollar, just fair market value if I sell them. The economy has not been kind to my business so I have been selling off some of the "extra" stuff I have to get my roadster on the road. (and still be able to pay the light bill and feed the dog)
Are the 17s worth much? I found this truck at a farm for $1000 and it has 17 inch wheels on it with all four caps still.
What did I not read? It started out talking about 17 inch wheels and it got me curious once the topic mentioned prices of 18 inch wheels. Did I miss something?
I think what he's implying is that they're either 16" or 18" not 17" and that a PAIR of 18" go for about $1500.
G'day Selohssa, are they split rims? If so the rims are useless. But for some good news, if I am guessing correctly the centre are the same diameter as 18" centres. I have a set of 17" split rim Kelsey Hayes high clearance wheels off my Dads 3/4 ton '40 Chev truck and these centre will fit into a 18" rim. Those wheels you posted should be able to be converted to 18" as well. I can tell you for sure if you can measure the centre. If you haven't bought that truck for a $1000 bucks you are crazy that would make a rad parts hauler. 3/4 ton trucks rule!
Well, I HAVE seen 17" wide five wheels. They had a weird heavy rim on them, so they probably did come from a truck of some kind. I p***ed them by because of the odd rim on them.
I believe the 15" was made by Kelsey Hayes. I could be wrong though. This is the first I've ever heard of a 17". Interesting. Maybe someone will post some pictures and details.
They are split rim, you don't want anything to do with them in stock form. they should be converted to a p***enger car type rim. Then you will have a solid 18" disc wheel with wide 5 pattern.
The "tonner" 17" split rim is **** in original form but centers were cut out & welded into a 16" chevvie tubless outer piece, then they are cool looking & work well with 285 tires. I would buy that '39 tonner pickup & do er up, probably has the "good" 3 speed pickup trans & not the boat anchor 4 speed. Since restoring a friend's ton, I love it and would bite on that stepside.
I needed an excuse to buy it. The guy has so much stuff and there are several more guys like that near by (middle of nowhere Saskatchewan). I will check again in the summer as to the diamiter of the centers and if they are indeed split rims.
