For you guys that are modifying them, there is FACTORY built 5 or 5 1/2" (i forget, i have 2 of them tho) wide 5's, kinda rare, but good stuff

ALSO there are 6 1/2" x 16 hoops on some late 90's GM p/u's and vans that work perfect, only problem is the front face is stamped as one piece with the rim, so they take a bit of work grinding them to look right. Otherwise they are perfect size hoops, just drop your center in place

The original 5" wheels have a different looking center than the narrow ones,

 

Ford F250/350 16" 8 lug wheels......

 

I have a set of the wider (5 1/2 I think) wheels from a 41 3/4 ton. The centers are different.

Also rare are the factory 15 inch diameter wide five wheels. These were typically found on Marmon-Herrington 4 wheel drive conversions.

A couple of years ago I made these for my RPU. I used 2001 Chev. truck spare tire rims. ( they are 16 inch) Hopefully I can get the pics to come up.I had a friend cut the centers out of the pickup wheels with a lathe,reversed the rim for looks, don't forget to redrill a new valve stem if you reverse.The centers fit in perfect,

 

That is nice to know that they fit right because a lot of 16 rims are too small. How wide are they?

Those are aftermarket Rocky Mountain brake drums, with ordinary wide-5's on them.

Those drums are fairly rare.

The wheels were the same. The drum design was for weight and cooling.

They are more commonly seen in the 5-on-5-1/2" pattern.

 

Happy new year 55 Willys and all hambers ...that is a nice looking piece your making there Willys ...but since your using the hamb to sell your parts don't you think you aught to join the alliance?.....

 

my jaguar wheels had a 13.25 center and I found ford and chevy truck wheels were workable
5x5 wheels and 5x5.5. I have no exact measurements but they pressed on nicely

 

Do you know if they were ever available to fit 37-39 or just 36?

 

I've only ever seen '36 ones.

There may have been later ones, but I don't know.

 

Any source for later ford caps like the ones pictured on the roadster for these wheels other than the 36 caps from Vintique / drake ?

 

^ those caps on the coupe are rare as hens teeth! Another option is the Lincon Zepher caps.

Here's mine. just started to work on it again.

 

Here's a pair I picked up for 20 bucks. So did these wheels also come on trucks? The ones I have on my car are stamped 1937. These tires are huge, maybe they were on a trailer?

 

Those are car rims, truck rims are wider and have a different center that has 5 small slots as opposed to the artillery style center.

 

55willys what were the difference in withs for? I took the tires off today and noticed the difference, there's a half inch. Thought maybe the narrow ones are for the front or on different cars? I noticed this before on my car, I bought 5 and one was narrower, I used the wider 4

i have wides on my rdst pu, one of my fronts is 3 1/2'' wide off aV8-60 car, the other is 4'', widened rears to 5 1/2''. truck rims are 5 1/2'' but different looking inners.

Yep, just to reiterate the original sizes available from Ford:

16x3.5" - V8-60 (Ford Standard) P***enger Car
16x4" - V8-85 (Ford Deluxe and optional Standard) P***enger Cars and 1/2 Ton Pickup
16x5" - Optional on 1/2 Ton Pickups, Standard on 3/4 ton and larger Trucks
18x4" - Optional "High-Clearence" Wheel on Trucks

 

PS: If anyone has a pair of the 16x5" truck wheels that are collecting dust, I'm looking for a pair...
