Just got my 16" wide five wheels from the Wheel Smith. They replaced the 4" hoops with 6.5" hoops and they look great. Nice and true.

Now I'm wondering if 7.00X16 or 7.50X16 firestones would fit and look right. Going on fenderless 29 RPU.

Anyone ever put either of those sizes on a 6.5?

I feel with the increased in size to 6.5 you will find the Large 16s wont have that "Old Timey" look , Have more of a Stretched sidwall look.

Maybe look into some of the Firestone Vintage Dirt Track Tires.

I am going to be running 3.5" in front and 4" out back. Does anybody have any objections to running that skinny of a wheel in front while running a 331 Hemi? I started thinking that I should be running at least 4" all around. Not to hijack the thread ot anything.

Hey sigfordjoe, what that run you for them to replace the hoops if you don't mind me asking?

Oh and what about the 7.50's, would that work or should you at least be running 4.5" in back?

My friend just went through this. He had some wheels widened just like you and bought some 7.50-16 for them. They looked like shit. The tread is too narrow and looked all stretched out. I traded him some 7.00-16. They actually have a slightly wider tread. The 7.00's looked way better on the wider wheels.

Wheel Smith charged $115.00 per wheel. A local guy was going to charge $150.00 per wheel to weld in a widening strip and could'nt guarantee that they would be true.

The guys at Wheel Smith where great.

I have heard amazing things about Wheel Smith. That's definitely a possibility to have my own widened to 4.5". Very cool.

I ran 7.50x16 on 4.5" rims and currently run 7.00x16 on 5" rims - both are about right.

I don't think either tire will look very good on 6.5" rims...
