This is one of best doco's on Aussie motoring for as long as i can remember, beautifuly shot,a great backing tape,a lot of archival footage rarely seen.

This is not just for aussies but for any one who has a keen sense of history, check it out, heres the link, cheers, thommo.

Thanks for that. Interesting to say the least also, good to see/hear Jac N***er with his bit - worked with him when he headed Ford Australia in the early '90s. Beautiful and facinating country for sure.

second part of the series aired tonight,Sir Jack Brabham history,
Redex trials, some early drag racing and hotrodding, the start of the
    muscle cars.
Not old enough to see this first hand, this is a brillaint series, some of the film of 50/60's Australia is priceless.
The second episode is already up on the website, check it out.

  9. Seen em both Thommo - very kool stuff.

Great series that gives a great insight to our American brothers as to what it was like here in the earliest as well as gaining a little a understanding of Australia, its landscape and the people who live here.

And all those Greeks and Italians (my folks included) that went to work at Holden and Ford right off the boat at Station Pier in Melbourne in the 50s, 60s & 70s....damn, one of my uncles spent 40 + yrs at Ford in Geelong, the other at Holden in Dandenong.

Next week will be also be about the heyday of muscle kars....Monaros, Chargers, GT Falcons etc and the Gen Xers like us who souped em up and drove em !! I still have my '71 VH Charger - my first car too !!

And Jack Brabham...why there isn't a movie/do***entary about this LEGEND of Australian and F1 motorsport I'll NEVER know. Esp since he's still with us.

Just an amazing guy who knew how to get the best out of himself and others !!

    HEY CHARGER !!!!!

We cannot hold Jack up high enough.

Last Grand Prix, he was NOT ( I repeat - NOT) invited to attend the event.

Guess someone doesn't appreciate what he did, and the reverence he deserves

I enjoyed the living daylights out of that, and learned a lot too. Highly recommended for those who like do***entaries, and triple-highly recommended for those who don't; prepare to be riveted to this one.

    Cool.

Here is an article I found a while back: The car is off topic, but it's a good read about a road trip in a Phase III Falcon down the Hume Highway.

For the Aussies who missed it last night (like me) I think it is repeated tonight on ABC2. Last week's episode was. I'm counting on it tonight.

Just got done with part 2... "must see" IS the term for any automotive history nut on here worth his salt. Filled in a lot of blanks for me any way. As a dumb state-sider I'm forced to ask... Define "Red X". I'm thinkin' its' a fuel company that sponsored the rally. Set me straight.

I got to watch lasts nights episode and I will be watching the repeat tonight (Hopefuly the kids will be quiet tonight). I love all the old footage showing the accessories like boats and caravans from the 50's,60's,70's. Sometimes i am a little embarrased to tell to many people on the hamb about my HR holden but shows like this make me love that car all over again.

Fantastic program, loved the early drag racing footage. I also found it interesting about the early immigrants working in auto factories. I only found out in the 90's just before my dear ole Dad past away that he worked at the Ford factory at Homebush in 1949 when he came from Malta. He used to do the leadwork on shoeboxes, I since thought of him as a form of kustomiser  yet he never owned or drove a car in his life.
    Cheers Charlie.
