I live in San Francisco and have a '64 Corvair that needs new tires, and I would like to get some wider white walls (1.5 inch +) than the thin white walls that are currently on it. I've seen some of the on-line places (Cooker, WhiteWallCandyStore), but would love to be able to go check them out direct. Does anyone know of a place in the Bay Area that specializes in those styles?
go to pepboys and get a set of road kings in your size then find a tire shop that can shave them ask a lowrider kid and he'll tell you where, they do it on regals and stuff the whole cost of four will be less then two cokers, i used to do that to all my cars it cheaper. and depending on the brand you can get up to 2 and 1/4 from a half inch skinny wall. in fresno the place is called 'pacheco tires.
Also raised white letter tires can be shaved, as they are white underneath the black. The taller the letter, the bigger the white. You can get some decent ones for cheap. I paid $200 for a set of 205/70/14's for my 58. Shaved, mounted on car, and out the door. They were "delta" brand, raised letter, good simple tread pattern. Had them for about 40000 miles, and are holding up nice. Got about a 2 1/4 whitewall out of them. Much better than paying 500-600 for some cokers. In sacramento, the place is "speedy tires" in oak park. Good Luck.
Try roberts tires and wheels in san francisco he can get them for you and he can also shave some for you too. Paul
