Will it fit on a 10" rim, or will the sidewalls be dangerously bulgy like Starr Jones front*****?

Hows this for a quick reply! i think you saw my new Apache well i've just put L78's on that & the rims are 6" Vintique's. At first i thought they might be a little wide & make the tires look too bulbous like my belly, but no they look fine.

Nads - I would think you would have a time getting a bias to bead & seat on a 10". The tire shop couldn't get draglinks old rear WWW to seat on a 8" rim but me and my buddy using elbows and knees got them to seat and take air.

    Good luck

  6. for what it's worth,Coker's catalog says that L-78's use a 6.5 to 9" rim . the tire installer may have trouble seating it on a 10" rim.

Wouldn't the old exploding tire mounting trick work? We used to do that for the lowrider guys when we put tires on their 13 x 10 wheels.

Less dangerous method is to take a ratcheting tie-down strap and use it to squish the tread down towards the rim. Makes the sidewalls bulge out enough to seat the bead. Just don't get crazy filling the tire with air immediately afterwards, you'll snap the strap in a hurry.

  10. Thanks for typing that Fraz, it also works on lawn tractor and ATV tires that are narrower (is that a word?) than the rim.

Nads, Starr and I like to call it her "honey pot" thank you very much.

I do that with bike and quad tires, but never had any luck with stiff sidewall bias ply tires.

Yeah HOP, got some rims from pinstriper, thanks for the offer though bub.
The guy at Tropical Tires uses the exploding can method, some kind of high pressure blaster thing.
I'm just worried about safety really. I remember seeing all those all those little jappers that had narrow tires on super wide rims a few years back. It didn't look too safe to me.
I'd like to get a pair of ol skool Pos-A-Tractions or General Grabbers.
General Grabbers were my favorites in the '70s.
If I had the money I'd get some custom made tires that had Genital Grabbers written on the side. That would be a hoot.
