No kidding! I just pulled the motor/tranny combo and was surprised exactly how heavy it is. I think my Chevy 250 was lighter. When I put it back in, the trans goes in separately!
^ dude, ive never done it that way, but from what ive read, its much, much, much easier to put everything together with the tranny attached.... Ive done it that way 3 times now on the 1950, just had to remove the radiator and the hood. Having a leveler on the engine hoist to dip the back half in helped a ton. Hope that helps.
I just picked up a leveler to use to put it back in, but all I have to say is wow, that was alot of weight to move around by yourself.. As for the trans, I understand complete how much of a PITA it is to get it lined up from underneath. But I have a tranny adapter for my floorjack that makes it tons easier that putting it on your chest.
IIRC, it's a titch over 500lbs for a dressed 292. That's assuming you're using the heavy ass cast manifolds! Only weight change between a 292 and a 194-230-250 is the extra deck height.
I just scrapped a dressed 216,should be within a few pounds of a 235.On the junkyard scale, missing generator and starter but with fan, intake, flywheel ,clutch ,bellhousing,625 pounds.Flywheel, clutch and bellhousing has got to be 60 pounds..............
