    Hey everyone!

I was just seeing if anyone can help me out by having factory valve clearance dimensions for wiend FR heads.

If anyone has a cnc cad file of the combustion chamber side of the heads, that would be a huge help as well!!

I'm having a machinist friend fly cut mine and we were going to machine the combustion chambers back to factory specs. If not to our own specs if anyone could give me the clearances the valve should have to the head I can figure out the rest as well.

    Thank you and happy Friday

  3. Keep in mind that the valve angles do not match the deck surface, so the right way to do it is to machine the valve pockets at an angle (to match the valves - which are also at different angles side to side).

Ask your machinist friend if he can use a 3D SolidWorks file - this is the native CAD file. He has to have his own CNC software to generate tool-path information for his machine. You need to determine how far the top edges of the valves are above the deck - you'll find one side is higher than the other (about .045 or so). Then you'll need to measure your chambers - and consider that the head gasket is normally about .050 compressed. Lastly, you need to decide what clearance you want over the tops of the valves. Opinions will very here - I run mine quite tight (like .050 or so).

My recommendation is to use a 1/4" ball mill with a small step-over. What year engine/block are you working with and what size valves? What cam? Also, if your heads have been milled a bunch and now you're going to rework the valve pockets, will you have enough material in the spark plug area to use them?
