Well, after many years of talking about it, she going with me to LARS!! She has always wanted to wait till I had the Roadster finished and its almost there but other things had priority. Still have to finish the upholstery, (mostly done) and the paint, (top coat), will be finished for next year for sure. As usual, taking the "Ole Reliable" chopped 50s survivor Deuce 5W we have had since Mar 69. Couple of pics of loading as we are leaving Mesa at 4am tomorrow. (110 HERE NOW) AND REAL HOT RODS DONT HAVE AC!! LOL She is taking her I Phone and computer to document the trip from start to finish. Will meet some friends at the local QT and caravan on over. SEE YOU THERE!!! Dave and Sue(HAMB SUZIE Q)
neato! Have a fun trip. I met up with some of the guys from Texas heading that way, they stopped in Tombstone, Tucson, etc. Tell her to save her pics on the computer as well as the phone..I hear that iphones eat pictures.
Have a good trip, that's a damn nice looking car. But, man, get out of the heat fast. 110 in a black coupe with 2 people and no AC. Good thing you guys are cozy already. Only about 70 here today and would prefer it a tiny bit warmer, but no where near that hot.
Thats pretty cool.... I will look foreward to the updates on the trip and the photos.......... be safe and have a great time........
Hope you both enjoy the drive out west. Weather forecast for Pomona is great, mid 70s. Sure you will enjoy the show!!!
I'm the wife who decided to go to LARS for the first time this year. We left Mesa, Arizona at 4:30 a.m. with hopes of "beating the heat," since none of the cars we were driving had a/c. The plans to post pictures of our trip in route failed when I was unable to upload the images. Even though we didn't beat the heat, its hard to do when you're running a Deuce coupe that is still under construction; No door windows, minimal carpet no insulation on the firewall or no upholstery other than the seat; the drive was well worth it. I knew from past experience that LARS was huge. There were so many roadsters, speciality cars, vendors and swap meet that it was impossible to see it all. The only thing I'd want to do differently would be to arrive earlier and have better sunscreen.
Well, We got back to Mesa today about 1:15. Had a great trip. Wife is downloading as I type. Should post shortly. Saw a lot of old friends and made some new ones. Saw lots of good things too!! Will do it again next year.
A welcome rest stop, time to stretch our legs and refill the water bottles. Self portraits are a challenge. Windblown but happy.
We are approaching the exit to the Fairplex, we made it! Funny thing we parked next to a fellow HAMBer that had documented his trip from Colorado to Pomona. It brought back memories when we drove my 40 Coupe cross country, from Kentucky to Oklahoma, Montana, Oregon and back home to Alaska in 1975. It sounded like he had has much fun with his dad on his trip as Dave & I did 36 years ago.
Dave getting the Deuce ready to head home. This was the first LONG trip and we were happy with how it went. But, before we take it on any more long trips, I'll make sure that I've finished the interior. Driving from LA to Phoenix on I-10 in June is not something to be done without a well insulated car, UNLESS you do it in the middle of the night.
Looks like you two had a great time. My wife can well relate to road trips in the summer with no ac and no insulation. Hope you did the return trip at night to be able to ride a bit cooler.
Neat car to take on a road trip. I drooled over your flamed 40 coupe when my brother was in college in arizona.
Still driving the 40, got the Wife's 40 on the road too. Just loads of fun to drive the 5W and since the Roadster is still apart for paint/uph/engine we went to the next best toy!! Reliving the 50s!! I never got lost in the 50s, I just never left!! BTW, WE LIKE YOURS!!!!! Another amazing thing, your 56 F100 looks VERY similar to the one I drove back in the late 50s, not a big window tho. Had a McCollugh blown 57 312 w/dual 4s in it.
Hi ya Davey, the black Deuce Tudor that you passed west of Blythe was me. Man, your coupe looks******in'. Especially moving down the higway at 75mph. There's not much better than bombing across the desert in a nearly 80 year old machine with a nearly 50 year old engine. Boy Howdy!
Well Hello! Yes, we had a blast!! Yours is a great looking Deuce too, love the old style as you can see by my stuff. But then, whats not to like about a Deuce??? LOL Had my 1st one in 61. Sue got a couple of pics of you and your friends on her I phone. Was the 1st long distance run for the Deuce, all functioned well, good shakedown run. Looking forward to more later as I get more finished on it. Priority is on the Deuce Roadster reassembly for now. If you go to LARS next year, maybe get together for a caravan. Keep in touch. Later, Dave
Sweet I wish my wife would do something like this!! but Im luckly she still lets me play with my car! and my clubs bubbys
