Hey After a conversion I had with @porkn******, we came to talk about jeeps, his jeep pick up (that I called a overland because of the pointy grill, how wrong of me [emoji21][emoji111]️), jeepsters and a drag racer running a wild wild Willy's. And there is a point to this, but I can't make it short. I remember way back when, I saw a pic of Willys CJ, could have been a DJ3 too, but it was defenetly a drag racing jeep. I remember it as being Black/white photo of it, but my mind keeps saying yellow/orange. It most have had a mad Digger at***ude, because this picture it was lifting and carrying the front end, but car looks like it was slightly up hill or level. Damn awesome jeep. Benno said he remember one too that put on a good show at his local track. I believe in my soul that if you by drilling and torching can make a tri-five light and fast, you can make a DJ3 be lightning fast. But anybody remember on, had one, got pics, got story, timeslips etc. please share!!!! It ain't this one I think about the other one was more farm-fresh lacked Finished. A true blue color underdog. Or it could have been the same but an earlier stage of build. Any info on the above pic is also welcome!!!
Funny the car I was thinking about when we were chatting was not this car but when I did a search for ******'s favorite jeep this popped up. Go figure.
LOL I never knew that Good year wrinkle walls came in blue streaks. The actual car that pops into my mind was one that had the front axle out in front of the grill. I actually saw if for sale when I first joined the HAMB down in the Ozarks. I want to say that it was a red, white n blue Cj like a 5 or a 6.
Okay, Now things are moving. The first ones are quiet modified, but the last one, the Rat Petrol Is awesome. Bad a$$ The first pic up top shows a B/SR But B wasn't that 3-3.2 weight/power non blower, BB was blower. And SR Street Roadster. Or is my year far off?
The Jeep in the first pic was built and raced in New Zealand in the late 70's by the Shadwick brothers. It was metallic blue and was really nicely built as was anything they built. I watched it race many times. I'm sure I have a magazine feature of it, I will post it here when I get a chance.
I have seen the Rat Patrol make a p***, but I don't recall where. it was named after a popular TV series about the second war and a desert platoon.
That's the only thing I can find when I google it. TV serie, might even see it but it's not about drag racing
This Jeep is still alive, now a purple blue, and owned by a Friend of mine, and lives about ten miles away from me. Powered by small block Chev, with tunnel ram, I recently took some pics of it, I'll go find em
And a good show it was! Them boys was gettin' air in those Jeeps, with a 50 cal. mounted in back too boot!
Yep to this day I have no idea how the gunner stayed in it. If I ever lay my hands on the correct front axle (one that I can live with and still have porknbeans to eat) I may go full on mud bogger with slicks with my jeep pickup. its not like I don't have drivetrain to make it fly. I may want someone in the bed for traction if I mount a 50 cal anyone care to give it a whirl?
Hell Beano, 'back in the day' guys would be standing in line for their turn . Today, naa, but I'll take admission and watch
Ha, this is funny in light of my post about engine options/adapters for vintage jeeps (early 50's) being deleted by the mods. r
After reading a thread about a guy who means that a Jeep could a trad hot rod, I venture in to find the exception to that rule. Then I remembered this old thread and when on a Google photo search; and now I found the HAMB friendly exception to the rule; Lo and behold, I give you the: Secret destroyer. Anybody remember that? Is it the same car with a different cage, or was there two similar cars around? I like the one with the small and round cage and the alu body panels. Anybody know how fast it was?
The one pic I post might have answered my ow questions. It got a different name There is a Secret Weapon and a Scotties Weapon
I don't know how I missed this thread in 2015. Back in 73-74 I built and raced a fibergl*** 3A Willys Jeep, with a Boss 302 Ford, Shelby dual four manifold with Holley 600's, 585 lift Crane Cam, toploader 4 speed. 12-2- x 31.2 slicks, with 4.86 gears, and 82" wheelbase, 2 wheel drive. My best time 1/8 mile was 7.30 @ 97mph. 1/4 mile 11.41 @ 117 mph. BTW I also ran sand as well.
