just got back from Hollywood Hotrods, in Burbank (i was the sleep-deprived quiet dude with the shaved head and big goatee)... kinda smokey, but not bad at all... clear skys directly over my house, but a few miles in each direction is a LOT of smoke... particularly from the Simi Valley fire. Just moved my grandma out here from PA... told her how there is rarely ever anything out here like earhquakes or fires... Less than 2 weeks later she gets evacuated from her new apartment (nobody hurt, just tons of smoke). Yeah, she's never gonna believe me again... with some luck, and the skill of the firefighters, it'll be over soon...
sup guys! i just flew in from New York today! It's insane out here! the fire has just moved into my city of Escondido. Several of my friends have been told to evacuate. I'm hoping we'll be out of the fire's way. How's everyone else doing? Cross your fingers for me guys. i'll be in touch.
Well The fire is about two miles up Mission gorge from me. I was thinking this morning that it wouldnt get close but now I am sweating it a little bit. I wish the best of luck to all the other HAMBER's out there in the same situation. If there is anything that I can do to help Let me know please!! I just got a new cell phone yesterday. The new # is 619-379-9960. I know geeman you had my last phone number so here is the update. After this is all over we still have to have that beer together. Maybee get soem other San Diego HAMBERS together also. My garage is always open. As long as it survives the blaze. Thanks for your support guys I really appreciate it. SLAMIT A.K.A Eric
Wow, sorry to hear you guys are going thru all this turmoil. My thoughts and prayers will be with you till this is over. Stay safe
God bless all HAMBers out there.. We'll be sitting here wishing all luck and waiting for more cool pics... Rat-
I just talked to Rogue and he doesn't seem too worried at the moment. The fire came up to the crest of a hill across from him and leveled a house but it turned around so he's just sitting in the dark with no electricity. "The Wife" and their new son are fine also. He said they've been clearing brush around the house and the pool is covered with ash, but their house is adobe so it won't burn, it'll just fire into a clay pot!
For the record, my cel is 619-454-5950. I am also available should my ***istance be needed as long as I don't have to shift into action-Jackson mode here at the home. My wife is packing her favorite outfits and my 7 year old is over at some close friends a few miles to south. I'm just waiting. I just talked to a business ***ociate, who called to cancel our 7:30 breakfast meeting tomorrow. He was holding back the tears, said his neighbors house in Scripps ranch is gone, but somehow his home was spared. He is in Singing Hills now at a buddies, but may have to evacuate again as the fire keeps moving closer. I guess I am getting a little concerned at this point. ****, I even took off my flip flops and put some shoes on. I just put my 53 Chevy grill and some of my other prize custom goodies in the back seat of the crew cab. I don't know about this one. A cold one will hit the spot after this is all done with Eric, we'll make it happen! Good luck to all!
Dego guys and gals North West is prayin for yous guys we will try and push some rain down. Be safe....Danny
Have been thinking and worrying a LOT over friends and family in So Cal... except for cousins in Fontana, I wasn't too worried about my family which live mostly in the Pasadena area, but now it seems to be jumping all over the place, and the San Gabriel Mountains (Mt. Wilson, etc.) are an easy target when them Santa Ana winds come to town. Saw in the news it's gotten so bad all the airports in So Cal shut down, partly because of fire possibly near them. I hope everyone here and their family comes out of this OK.
The mayor came on the TV tonight and asked all employers to keep their employees home tomorrow in order to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles. County and city offices will be closed. The Miami Dolphins arrived in San Diego at 4:30 this afternoon only to find out that the Monday night football game has been moved to Phoenix because of the fires here. Someone asked about Valley Center, glad to hear that Rogue ad his family are fine, there were 57 homes lost there today. A guy tried to land his light plane in the smoke at ****omery field (small private airport north of downtown) ran out of runway and tried to take off again only to lose control and crash into the freeway. Fires seem to be moving south across the border into Mexico. If they hit Tijuana there will be many more lives lost. Right now the air is clearing a bit here in El Cajon (east of San Diego), I think that the winds pushed the fires far enough to the west that they are past us now. Hopefully by tomorrow they will have burned out or have been brought under control. Thanks all for the good thoughts and prayers, my family is fine but there are many good folks out here tonight that aren't as lucky...
looks like i might head out to my parents in Newbury Park (thousand oaks) tonight to help them out a bit... if anyone needs some emergency help in that area, gime a call: 8184723035
You know it never rains in southern California, but sometimes it poors, oh man, it poors.......can't remember the rest of the words to that ol song, but ya know, all us HAMBers know the seriousnos of this and are concerned. I hope the rains come or the wind lets up. Were all prayin for ya.......Lanny
It's crazy out here. Luckily I'm pretty safe where I'm at. We had fires come within a 1/2 mile in '67 and within a mile in '84. We've had pretty steady ash fall since friday. My driver is a mess but as long as that's the worse that happens I can live with it. I hope everyone stays safe. Rick
I cant believe were not having any problems out here in the high desert, but I'm not looking forward to going to work in valencia tomorrow. I will also offer any help for fillmore/simi valley area, cell 661-917-6278. been watching it at work since thursday and hasnt gotten any smaller so I am a little worried.
I grew up in So-Cal and can vividly remember the hills above our town being a m***ive inferno during one of the big Malibu fires in the early 70s, I can't tell you how much I wish there was something I could do to be helping you guys down there. Stay safe, and keep the hell out of harms way! I hope everyone is ok and that they get the fires under control asap.
had to drive up to lancaster for work today at the airforce base. Damn up the 405 throught the valley I had flames on the hills to my left and tons of smoke out to the left.
was working on my rides yesterday, if i was smart i would have stayed inside due to all the ash in the air. but i didnt, and now im paying the price... cant breath and my sinus's are jacked up.
i think django did it . notice how he ran back home now ? haha just trying to keep a sense of humor while all this craziness is going on . i hope everyone is safe and doesnt lose ANYTHING....this is insane......
All I can do is offer thoughts...you guys be careful, and stay safe. Good luck on it letting up soon. Steve
