I have a chance to pick up some 9.00/9.50 X 15 Cheater slicks and would like to know if they will fit inside the wheelwells of my 61 bubbletop. I have a set of 15x7 steel wheels I plan on using.

depends on the backspacing of your wheels and the section width of the tires

I have a hunch they will fit

I had some 9.00 x 28.5 x 15 slicks on the back of my 61 bubbletop, on 6" wide wheels (which are rather narrow for those tires). They fit. You need to be careful with wheel selection, also they were pretty tight to the front of the wheel opening.

I had a 64 Impala that I ran 11 inch M and H dragster slicks on, and they cleared. I had them on regular steel wheels. I suspect the 61 and 64 are similar in that area roomwise.

I wouldn't count on the wheel opening being the same size, they're shaped quite different.

The rocker panel area is the first part that us usually cut on those cars.

you need a 3 inch offset on the front side and 4' on the back side with a 7' rim, it will work perfectly and look great! that will give you the nastalgic look you want. these are standard G.M. rims

  9. Wow, that 61 with the crossed flags is damn nice

not sure about the backspacing or offset, but they are stock GM wheels. I think I'll give them a try. Thanks guys

If they're stock wheels they'll probably work.
