Flathead guys, Can I run the 9" Clutch and stock 9" pressure plate behind a 276 ci Merc, Wieand heads, Isky 400 cam, 2 x 2 intake and a camaro T-5 or will I have slippage issues? The rear axle is a '34 converted to open drive so I won't be ripping the keys out of the drums with hard launches.
Depends on how you like to drive your car /K ...................................... Taildragger&fenderless
Weight of the vehicle is probably the biggest factor in need for clutch strength. Roadster or dump truck??
'32 3W fenderless.............my concern is with a 3/4 race Flathead am I going to get clutch slippage under hard acceleration.
Why wouldn't it? It was still a common Ford clutch @ the beginning of the Y block era and a stock 292 makes more zot then your merc flatty will.
Should be fine in a 2,500 pound ride. The 9" is now reproduced you-know-where and there have been some problems noted...so get a used one and have it rebuilt. If you are worried, the things have pockets for 9 springs but generally have 6 installed, so rebuilder can jack up grip both by number of springs and their racing. I have heard that Fort Wayne clutch is a good place...entirely secondhand information there.
I need a 26 spline for a Camaro T-5 so I guess I would have to try and find a good used USA made one and have built unless someone knows of a USA made replacement?
I need a 9" 26 spline clutch, the 10" will not work with a stock flywheel with out redrilling it or a 9" pressure plate.
