I'm a big fan of innovation and craftsmanship, plus I'm a fan of tradition. These concepts are not mutually exclusive. Your idea displays innovation and will require craftsmanship but it is not traditional, meaning that I would still admire it in any forum, but that's just speaking for myself.

Whether you get "flamed" depends on how strictly the "acceptables" are policed on this forum. If they were so strict, then every SBC implant newer than 1964 should be flamed as well.

Love the GM 3800 platform. I have had three supercharged versions in Buicks. An S-10 2.8 700r trans will bolt up for RWD and the intake can be rotated 180 if needed.
I guess the Holdens are already RWD. I would do it, no worries

The video looks like a Southern California jalopy derby race of 1955. WOW!!

  6. Build it with a hood and keep it shut.

It might not be a good choice as the engines are quite wide with the accessories bolted on.

  7. alt is on top..what other accessories?? will be running an electric power steer pump..

no a/c..that stuffs for the weak...its got an g=hinged front screen anyway hehe

I like the looks of that!

But as far as the Buick V6 goes, they're sweet little rigs! I had an old "odd fire" 6 in a 65 Jeep CJ5. It wore the tread off the spare tire from draggin while doin wheelies!

  12. thats nice,,,wish my race motor looked like that...:D

ive seen a 265 with 6 R1 yamaha carbs on the side of it..
they said it went bloody good too..would be a mongrel to tune the 6 carbs up though:eek:

i got my 245 running 10.1:1 comp ratio, running 95 octane pump gas...
some run avgas, but it must be close to $2.80 a litre now (thatll be about $11NZD a gallon)

If you were living somewhere else where there are pleanty of old cars around then yeah you may get flamed, and it will hurt the resale when you decide to start another project.

Having said this you are not living in such a location. Go for it.

I have played around with using many old cars as daily drivers (mostly 20's), I even had legit insurance on some, right now I'd driving the stock '28 roadster everywhere. Of course it helps when the max speed is 45 except in a couple places where its 55 This isn't a big deal as the parts were easy enough to come by and I took care of them. When I retire in Thailand I have been giving the antiques alot of thought and while I will be building my "sport touring" which will be a legit brass car it isnt pratical for driving as much as I would like so I will be going with something different for a daily. Something that I would definatly be given a hard time for if I were to take it to a show here but over there its different.

I can't help but think you might be in a similar boat although not quite as extreme.

  15. A friend was looking to put one in a T Tudor and he had to step the chassis out a bit at the front to fit the motor in. Can't remember why, but it may have been because of a/c, but it could have been starter clearance, exhaust etc...

It may have been because of the narrowness of the T???

The only people that will talk shit are the ones that could have never built a car like that anyway. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone bad mouth a car because it had the "wrong" vin number. Was their "correct" vin car there? Of course not! People will bitch and moan no matter what you do. Do whatever makes you happy.

Just keep a hood over it and nobody will have an opportunity to say anything.

Buick V6s are cool engines and they were popular in the 70 when we had a "gas shortage". If you are concerned about what others think, don't build it. Try collecting stamps.

Theres a panelbeater dude down Timaru way with a green 28/29 Plymouth or Dodge sedan running a 3.8 Commode engine. Its fenderless but runs the hood (bonnet) and I have never seen anyone say anything nasty to him. Saw it at last years Pre-49 rod run.

I have a 4.3 Chevy Vortec and 350TH in my '37 Terraplane and it makes a great cruiser. About 200 HP with a single Edelbrock 4BBL, 20MPG and ice cold AC.
