i love this car i just want to get her running an make her happy. i have such grand plans for it . ive been looking at lots of pin striping.i think i want to get a sugar skull pined on the hood an a small one on the trunk. but b4 i get any cosmetics on it done i want to make sure her insids are working good. ill just have to wait , impatientley but none the less wait for the bugs to get fixed.

Be patient... get all the bugs out of the run'n gear then do your personal touches. Believe you me it may take you a while but it will be worth it in the long run. Sounds to me you love that car!
    Best of luck

Don't give up! Your car is no where near as bad as it could be. Part of the fun is remembering these times while you're cruising one day. It will get better, but only if you stick with it.

Now, go pat that Dart on the trunk and tell her you love her. Sounds like you need to.

I guess it could be worse, you could have to put all that time and energy in a Ford.

That's just old cars. You can refer to it as a her if you like, but "she's" just a machine, a 46 yr old machine, and you're never going to "make her happy". Old machines can be a lot of trouble, cost a lot of money, and be down right dangerous if you don't know anything about them. Forget about pin striped skulls for a while and put your money into making it safe and reliable, and study and learn as much as you can about cars.

Don't get too excited drooling over pinstripes and skulls, doo-dads, whoozits, and whickerbills.

I would suggest starting with a quality repair manual, some basic tools, and a lot of time reading on the HAMB. Maybe take a look at a couple of the MOPAR forums as well.

Looking for some silly guy to fix your car could be more trouble than it's worth. Hook up with some local HAMBERS, and knock that out yourself.

    Good luck.

Yep, that way you could suffer for two or three years, or more, only to do it all again.

I would love to drive my car 3 miles. Heck, I'd take a mile and a half...

    Persevere.

get a good repair manual and start reading. Have a good friend help you fix some of these small things. Learning about and how to fix cars can save you $ and headaches down the road. You just have to dive in and soak it up. When it comes down to the basics it's just stuff bolted together and knowing the relation ship of how each part interacts with the others. Break it down, read the cooling section of your manual while you sit there with the hood open. Now go read the brake section, get a good set of tools from sears. Aint nothing hotter then a girl turning wrenches. That's what sold me on the lady I'm with now, I told her I would help her fix some small things with her car but she tackled them and took care of them herself which made be appreciate a woman not afraid to tackle the unkown. Sure it's a man's world, the car thing, but it's just cause we are wired to want to learn about it, no reason you can't dive in to.....Come on in the water's fine...

I have to agree with getting manual first.Try to do all your own repairs, the more repairs you do yourself the more comfortable you will be working on your car. Take your time.

I had a 63 and 64 dart wagon if you have any questions feel free to ask. I might have an original manual still around too.
First thing I would recommed you do would be is to go over the brake system.
I wired my choke open never had a problem with really needing here in calif.

That's how my car is, engine block here, engine parts there, rear fenders over there, blah, blah, blah.... LOL.

  23. You got it almost right when you said 'get her running and make her happy', didn't you know its impossible to make any woman happy.......... (As I run ducking for cover!)

Hang in there, its a learning curve and the troubles today help you later on as you learn more and more.
    Doc.

um you could get a book for it and try to fix it yourself ...Fuel line is not that hard,,plus helps to know your car in case it breaks down..

onces its taken care of mechanically,,then you can play dress up with it :D

Got any tools? Got the factory manual? Time to get your hands dirty, pick just one thing that dosn't work and take it apart. Know your limits, don't mess with stuff like transmissions or rear gears, but i bet you'll be able to replace the fuel line or fix the choke. Getting a car to run right is all about the little things, focus on them. Thats the stuff that'll make her run happy.
