There is a lot of advice that has already been given let me just add this little piece if your car has a slant six. there is a great technical website full of people on the west coast for slant sixes. I dont know the policy here so i will pm you the site name.

That being said, there are a couple of things with slant six engines that can make them run poorly, these include the Holley single barrel carbs that are on some of them (there is tons of issues with them so many people go with the Carter BBS). I would also recommend looking at upgrading to a later 2 barrel carb (Carter bbd) and intake which helps not only with drivability but also improves fuel mileage.

After that I would get someone to set the valve lash as this also really helps drivability again there is tons of articles and info on doing both these swaps at the link I pm'ed.

Other things are a little fuel line mod which helps deliver fuel at a little cooler temp which helps drivability after the engine has warmed. The stock fuel line routing does create some heating issues on slant sixes.

Not knowing how long your car has sat or not its always a good idea to get the breaks checked as the only thing more important that keeping a vehicle running is making sure you can stop it before it hits something.

And finally I wish all vehicles I purchased could be ready to go in three weeks ( and so does my wife).

Damn, guys. Not looking for a girl right now but I would still offer my wrench if I lived closer. Maybe someone can organize a bbq/wrench-a-thon? I imagine a dozen HAMBers from the area could swing by with spares, tools and a grill, spend a Saturday afternoon and get her on the road?

Just sayin. I have a group of people in my neighborhood that holler at me when they are having issues. The most I do is send them for parts, if I don't have it on hand in my garage.

ok i went over and helped her out, guided her in changing her spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, tightened her carb for her ,stopping the leak at the carb base, fixed her brake light switch mount(it was bent for some reason).now it starts right up and runs pretty dam good, and has all the lights working.next is to r n r the points and condensor and a water pump.the water pump is corroded at the outlet and is leaking alot.she and i ran out of daylight and after fixing the things we did we took the car out for a cruise and she took me for a few beers and mexican food:),,overall the car is coming along fine,,just a few more minor things to do to her and its ready to roll. heres a few pics a evidence that she got her hands dirty and actually did the majority of the work....

Better to get the bugs out now as opposed to on the side
of the road in the middle of the night.
It is tough to be patient though.
    I agree.

  6. That is very cool of you.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

I can't come to terms with putting mine up for the winter so I'll probably keep driving it until the snow flies.

If it was easy everybody would be drivivng one... Old cars are much more satisfying after you "earn" yourself a running one.

And remember, take those rings off when you work around that engine. You could short one on the starter, OUCH, or catch one on a sharp part, OUCH again, or lose a finger. A public safety message brought to you by Lippy:D

Sounds like Russ helped you out, good for him and you. Be careful about who helps you out though.......

I bought a car from a gal in Omaha who had her neighbor help her try to get it running,,,,I have spent 3 weeks repairing what the friendly neighbor screwed up.

I learned a long time ago there are plenty of assholes that don't want to know you anywhere you go.

Thing is with living out here is there more people, hence more assholes. Just the law of averages.

Three weeks is really nothing. I have been working on my F100 for the last 7 months. And if you are like me and mine, the toy became my daily before I was really ready. So I am chasing bugs as I drive. Thankfully I don't have to drive much.

Now, give it some time, and you will cross paths with more people that think like you and will be glad to lend a hand.

And take lippy's advise on the rings. I have seen some nasty things happen to people with big ass rings in manufacturing and mechanics. If you just gotta wear something (married, etc) keep it low profile and tight to the skin. Less chance of it getting caught somewhere.

It will take a little while till al the bugs are gone and even then she might drive different almost every other day. Its just the way old cars are but the good thing is once you do a good tune up it should run fairly nice. Have fun

Sweet ride Necro. I once had Valiant wagon. Those little slant 6's are bad ass. Any chance you into roller derby?
