I'm planning on swapping out the drum brakes for disks on the front of my '52 Chevrolet. Will the stock 15x5 wheels work? Have you done the swap? What kit did you use? thanks! -Joe
Probably not....the calipers will probably hit the wheels. Although I was able to put those early style wheels on my 55 with the 69-72 Chevelle disk brakes, but I don't think those early rotors will work with any of the 49-54 disk conversion kits.
I did an ECI disc upgrade, my stock wheels worked fine...no rubbing or bumping. The guys at ECI use 2nd gen parts, primarily (I believe, but check their site) so if you're using something else, it's quite possible they may not. Other more experienced (and more well connected in the community) guys will just buy the brackets and then get their rotors/calipers on their own and save a bundle. I'm in no such position on either count, so I bought the full monte kit from them. Being a newb, it took some questioning on the HAMB to figure out everything, but I got er dun. PLUS, the guys at ECI will sit on the phone with you and help you get it installed...and they seem happy to do it. I *highly* recommend them. ADDED INFO Here's the link, and I was pretty much right....2nd gen: ECI 49-54 Disc Conversion Kit
