Well here is one that is using some inexpensive parts that a teenager could have afforded, putting it into an application that it was never meant to be in, trying to get some more HP out of it so I can go down to the drag races and have a good time. I guess I don't know what hot rodding is about (cheesy?).

That said, I have a 2x2 Carter BBD that are mounted frontwards and backwards (look at the picture). I use a home made progressive linkage (no mail order kit available). Carb's I bout for $10/each (no lie). Rebulid kits were $14/carb. I bought all of the linkage pieces at the local hardware store (shaft collars, 1/4-20 bolts, bronze sleve bushings). The most expensive part was the Vintage Speed adapter drilloed inboard for the Carter 4bbl (no extra holes for the spread bore set up). A used Eldelbrock manifold for $60. The entire set up with gaskets is less than $200. The BBD's flow 280 CFM a piece, giving a 560 CFM total (just right for my MoPar 318).

Notice I have no "I gotta have's to be real" Strombergs, SBC, genie triple duece intake, all made before 1959. I did not use any aftermarket kits, instead I bought a retro Carter manual and figured out how to convert the BBD's to 2x2 myself. The only "six pack" Holley set up for a small block MoPar is $1800+, and I am not in that price league. It probably would have been cheaper and easier to do a newer 4 bbl and rebuild it, but honestly I like the vintage look (oh, I forgot that others here think the homeade stuff is cheesy rat rod).

For me, as long as your are putting God and familly first, then have a little fun with your hot rod. High dollar perfect retro, or not.
(P.S. If there is anyone interested in this set-up, PM me)

    Make your own...

My buddy milled the 4bbl riser off a old aluminum intake, made a new piece of aluminum for his 2x2's, and welded it together.

    Works like it was factory.....

Only took him about a week to build:rolleyes:

    :D
