Hey guys -- my gals 58 Edsel tank is puked -- beyond repair -- I have a line on a reasonably priced new tank -- but they only have a listing for a 58 Ford Fairlane... anyone know if this tank is the same or not?
DO you know the original part numbers? The Ford tank will have a part number beginning with something like B8A-9005-(usually A or B or C which would indicate body style). If you could find out the Edsel part number that would tell you. Ford, unlike GM, used the same part number from division to division. If the Edsel parts books shows the Ford prefix number it will work.
Keeping a 59 Edsel Ranger alive, it has been my experience that pretty much all mechanical stuff for 59-60 is same same as Ford-Mercury..when the 58s came out they were trying so hard to be different they had specific stuff like the push-button shifter and their own wheel bolt pattern etc. for the most part they were the same also..gas tank should work ...
Sorry my bad -- was actually just gonna update that -- car is a 58 Ranger 2 dr hdtp. so it is the Ford chassis I am just a little concerned as I wont be able to send the tank back once I get it if it's wrong.
I have a Mac,s antique parts catalog for '49/'59 Ford,Merc and Edsel.'57/'58 Ford except sedan delivery, station wagon and ranchero is B7A-9002-B,'57 Merc except station wagon MG-9002-B.... NO LISTING ON EDSEL ,must be some difference.,but the '57/'59 sending unit B7A-9275-FR fits all Ford and Merc except sedan delivery, station wagon or ranchero and also'58 Edsel Ranger and Pacer.Hope this helps.
Flamedolds Yes this tank well work , the only diff. is that the filler neck on the ford tank is shorter so you have 2 options, first is to just not worry about it as you can still reach the gas cap , or else you have to cut the neck and and a piece of hose to lenghten the neck, either well work. They are nice tanks (got mine from Bob Drake) I have one in my 1958 Edsel Ranger 2 dr hdtp. Let me see a pix. Cal
