I've got an opportunity to buy a full fendered '23 T with hood and sides. I've got a rebuilt '39 top loader I'd like to use. If I buy the car I'd like to run it with the hood, sides and full fenders. I know it will be tight (if even possible), but will a V8 flathead fit? Iv'e got a 40 Flathead and banjo I'd like to use. I also have a 265 chevy block. I'd rather stay with Ford in Ford. If it will clear the sides-what about firewall clearance and overall length, height, etc. I know it's probably been done before. Some here have probably done it. I also thought about built up A-banger, but what about adapter to 39 ******? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks...

The "First 12 Issues" reprint from Hop Up has a feature on a fairly stock looking T-V8 built in '51-ish.

  3. That's my plan for the summer. 32 drivetrain into 23-25 T frame, undecided about body- I'd like a full roadster but a modified too... we'll see! ;)
    It can be done.

A-skool, take a close look at the s/b Ford(221-302), I remember in the 70's they were a popular motor to use in restorod Mod.T's, with closed hood sides . There were quite a few covered in the magazines of the day.

Good luck with your project. ..........Jack

  10. stolen from another thread here on the HAMB , John Buterra's full fenders and hooded T sedan with a small block ford. as you can see it's a tight fit. with a sbc i think you will run into problems with the exhaust manifolds hitting the hood.....you would have to do some measuring to be sure. keep in mind this is a `26-`27 sedan....maybe a `23 is narrower? something you should check

I've seen many small block chevys in T's. It'll work.

The 2 closed cars posted are a bit bigger then a 23.
'23 is the smaller hood still, '24.5? i believe went to the taller cowl and then 26 got a good bit larger.

Just something to keep in mind.

"MAYBE the 23-25 T (hood/firewall) is narrower than the 26-27"?
MAYBE? Please note the top of the cowl is much higher than the 23-25 and the firewall is wider and taller.
    MAYBE?

  18. Another vote for the V8-60. There's a guy around East Tenn. somewhere with the *****inest little green T Model coupe (1925 I think), full fenders, hood top, (sides would fit but why hide something that perfect) with a hopped up 60 in it. Looks like it grew there and sounds oh so sweet. I know you're trying to use what you have and that's great but, if I were trying to do what you're trying to do I'd atleast look fo a 60 first.

  19. hey , pasadena.....know one (including me) didn't know for sure , i have never measured any T's or messed with any. i had an impression that they were smaller from what i have seen. just a suggestion for A-skool to check into before money was exchanged and motors picked out

i'm glad you were here to straighten us out

Thanks for all the replys. Pics were great. This 23 T is a "tall radiator" model. Maybe a little more height, but I think it is small than the later T's. I like the V60 a lot. I'm wondering about $$ and speed parts availability. I've looked around on the Hamb and found a few pics and threads of guys who have connected a V60 to a full size 39 top loader. I'm interested to know how that worked. Still planning on buying the 23T this weekend. Will post pics when I get her to the shop.

    Keep the ideas coming.
