  1. I'd love to go to Reno, but for the air races, not some silly car show.:D

If you are going to Reno I can help pay for some of your trip. I need a 35 Ford Cab moved from Reno to Texas not much left of it so it's not too heavy. Let me know if you can help me so I can help you.

    Hey,

I wouldn't worry 'bout any roudy "gang banger" element going down on the Long Beach arm of the tour. If you thought the security was tight at Ink & Iron you ain't seen nothin' yet! Given the money ridin' on this bet, and the fact that it's going to go down in the port area (Long Beach/Los Angeles Harbor) read Homeland Security Federal area and the Goodguys org. the toughest folks will be probably be dressed in flowered shirts and beach shorts!
'sept for the $150.00 for show car entries, "if" street rods make your naughty parts tingle, it should be a good show.

I guess my biggest complaint about HAN is once it gets dark the cars disappear. It's more of a night club in the streets than a car show. I think more people are up there for a quick hook up than to check out the rides. Thats just speaking on the downtown Reno area.

I arrive in LA from New Zealand on July 29th and will pick up this 62 T Bird that we have brought for Beach Hop 11 - yes it will find a new home at the Festival (along with a 1952 F1 truck and Hot Rod Flathead Engine). www.beachhop.co.nz

I'll head straight up to Sacramento for the Poor Boys "Midnight M***", Reno Swapmeet, and then onto Reno for HAN - staying with friends in Sparks. From there onto Bonneville for Speedweek and then back to LA to ship the T Bird to New Zealand...

I've got an entry p*** for HAN - I don't mind paying to be part of the show - 5 days @$30 per day isn't too bad - and includes an event T shirt.

Make sure you say Howdy to me if you see the T Bird... probably be at the Atlantis most nights - will cruise Sparks at night as well...

I think the event may get a little smaller, but it may be less people from the so cal area who are just up in the reno area to party more than look and talk to car guys, so even tho it will start in long beach, we may get less idiots to han and more true car guys.

Hey careful there buddy:eek:, I got a lot of friends in So Cal. And its been do***ented that most of the trouble makers didn't come from down there.
But, I agree the event will probably get smaller and it may actually be better FOR the "true car guys".

Oh yeah! Spent a week at HAN last year with the wife and kids. We had a blast. We are going back this year staying at Atlantis with the ole Ranchero in the show. It's a really good time. If you like old cars (and not just Rat Rods) you can't help but have a great time.

Well I'm heading from New Zealand to see HAN and intend having a ball - any good areas to hang out to meet rodders/see car?

Then off to Sturgis after that!

Outside of downtown Reno, going south there's the Peppermill and the Atlantis Casino, that usually have a good crowd and many cars.

Also the City of Sparks down town area is good. It's just east of Reno, but share the event with Reno. Get a local paper when you hit town, all the stuff is listed about the whole weeks events.

The Grand Sierra Resort is one of the best around, right beside the 395 Freeway you can't miss it. Another spot would be Summit Racing Equipment on Glendale Ave. everyone here can direct you to that. It is a huge retail store and is a rodders hangout almost all the time. If you get internet access when your here, send me a note and we'll see about meeting up.

We usually hang out at the Atlantis & Peppermill as they are only a few blocks apart - Amercian Graffiti/Happy Days stars are usually at the Peppermill. Plus some good bands... Dropkick Murphys at the Grand Sierra - HELL YES!

Summit Racing is a must... we check out Downtown Reno Saturday morning and of course the final Sunday Parade.

Another MUST is the National Auto Museum - the Roth collection is pretty cool.

Remember, for those of us that live outside the USA this is all totally mind blowing...

P.S S***mie - there are a few Kiwis that live in the Reno/Sparks/Truckee area - I feel a Kiwi Reunion coming up....

Victorian Square in Sparks (by the Nugget hotel/casino) is a pretty awesome scene, in a beautiful setting. Lots of bars and restaurants, and free outdoor music (live bands).
There has been controlled cruising in the past, I would guess that will going on again this year also.

I can't get over the $170 price tag "deal"! After a few years of goodgui$e antics in Pleasanton, I can still get a good laugh.

I have to agree it is too much for me, what with being unemployed.:D
But for those who can afford it, it breaks down to $24.29 a day for entry for the seven day event.

Actually S***mie there is a Kiwi cop in Reno! His name is Chris Waddel - his Dad is the well known cricket commentator Brian Waddel. We were standing on a corner drinking ****** Mary's watching the Sunday parade (in breach of the liquor ban)... he flipped a bird on his Police motorbike and stopped by us "You must be Kiwis!".... Nice guy...
