Deuce 3 window door windows on original car. I am in need of detailed instruction on installing the glass into the door. What is the drill getting the regulator arms attached to the slots in the lift channel once the window assembly is iis slid into place ????

Why is the bottom stop at the front of the door lower than the rear one ?

Also, I have to replace the missing spring on the regulators. Am I correct in assuming these springs keep the weight of the window from pushing the regulator arms down when the window is up.

    I have just done a 1933 3W - so here goes:

    1). Remove garnish molding

2). Crank window regulator up, lightly pulling on glass towards the inside of the vehicle.

3). There is a point where the top of glass will start coming towards you - keep cranking until the two round 'keepers' reach the sweet spot where the glass track just pops out. This is where the two round holes are located, at the inner point of the channel track slots. You may have one pop out and then have to crank a little either way to get the other one to line up and pop out.

4). If you are installing new glass go the extra mile and get tempered glass. Have the glass guy install the new glass in the channel - there is a special tool for doing this and believe you me it is not worth trying yourself.

5). If you are going to install new door channel and fuzzies (and the time to do it is N-O-W) - do it before you attempt to install the new glass. You will have to remove the door handles and window cranks which are held in place with a roll pin. Push the escutcheon plate back to reveal this, then use a small drift to punch out the roll pin. Note that the window cranks and handles have four holes - if you are beating on them with a drift and getting nowhere, you probably have the wrong hole! Be sure to bend the small metal locator tabs on the new rubber channels into the slots in the door - there should be three of them on each channel.

6). Remove the door panels which are usually held in with wire clips. Use an upholstery pry to pop them out.

7). Remove six screws holding regulator in place and remove from door to replace spring.

8). To install the new glass, crank the regulator so that the arms almost meet in the center. Lean the top of the glass towards you and wiggle until the round keepers on the regulator arms seat in the glass channel and then push the top of the glass back and check by slowly cranking on the window crank to see if the keepers are rolling along the track. If there is any bind, do not keep cranking as you will bend the slots of the channel and the keepers will pop out mid channel - this is the point when you have screwed up your window channel.

9). Golden rule is patience and do not force anything.

10). Give the glass guy your old glass as a template and check for exact match before you re-install. I found out the hard way that Canadian bodies and US bodies have different glass size - not much, but enough to make the US glass too wide and short by about 1/2" each way to fit a Canadian built car. Note power windows:eek: need taller glass.

I can recommend Mike at the Glass House in San Dimas, CA - very experienced and helpful, good prices and will ship glass to you. 909 592-1078
