window regulator

I have a 53 Chevy 2 door sedan and the drivers door window regulator is very hard to roll down. It feels like it has way too much tension on it as it will spin the handle when you let go of it. Any ideas? Can it be fixed, or should I just replace it? If I have to replace it, where would I look for something like that?

The clutch is shot. it's the little can at the base of the shaft.

 

Can it be repaired or should it be replaced?

 

Those cars are so common I would just grab a spare off a junker.

Try taking it out of the car and cleaning it. Clean the spring and the two slides. One slide is on the bottom of the window the other is afixed to the door with two screws. Check that the window rollers that run in this tracks are not off track. grease up everything with white lub are ch***is grease. oil the the crank tower and I bet it works like new again.
