Well, I have to say- You guys are great! Such a wealth of knowledge here, i don't think I could get through this project without you guys!! Ok, having kissed a** again :p

I'm looking at my windshield chrome trim on the 54, I removed the two center connectors / sleeves, and looked at how the chrome is attached to the windshield molding. Not quite like my 57, where the chrome molding set inside a groove in the black molding. This is a bit different, so how do I safely remove the chrome from the 54 windshield. It's on pretty tight, I can not seem to get my putty knife up under the trim, so I have no clue if these have clips or if they are just "Snapped" on and just stuck from so many years. Anyone have a link for this information or have you removed yours??

    Thanks

From the Ford Shop Manual, the trim has to be installed into the windshield seal when the windshield is installed as a unit. You cannot remove the trim with the windshield in place, unless you want to crack it and buy a new one, about $400+.So,that means you will have to order a new windshield seal and take the windshield out.If you have never done this before you should call some local gl*** shops to find someone who has done 50's cars.

Uggg, well I have removed windshields before but not with the trim attached. I will have to take a long look at this before I try. I'm not sure how I would get the cable between the chrome and windshield frame, in order to remove it all at once. I can't even get my putty knife under the chrome trim. Thanks for the info

I am ***uming this is the front windshield. So The lower chrome on the bottom of the windshield has two screws if you open up both of your doors you will see two screws that have to be removed. On my car they were so rusted on I had to drill out and put new ones in. from there u should be able to remove the lower chrome trim once that piece is off the two bottom corners ones should slide out from the upper trim. Im trying to remember this from when I took my front window out.

I had to drill out these screws as well, with the screw out, I was able to get to corner pieces off easy, but I still can't remove the lower chrome trim. Guess I will have to go the route Jeff mentioned. That's going to be a pain in the ****, I've never had any luck with piano wire or an actual Windshield removal cable when there was chrome trim in the way. This will be a real test of patients for me.

I just used a razorblade to cut the old rubber seal off inside and outside. i cut off as much as possible. I think after that you should be able to remove the chrome trim off. the chrome trim is pinched between the window and the window seal. in order to remove the window takes 2 people to do this one person on the inside of the car and another on the outside of the car. removing the windshield takes alot of carefull strength. be very carefull when removing your front windshield. I installed my front windshield it was a ton of work. The rear window I had taken out but I paid someone to install it for me because the back window has so much curve. let me know how things go.

If you remove all the inner mouldings, you can cut the seal with a razor knife and take the windshield out the front you will need a helper without a doubt.
